23 MacBook Pros, 14 iPhones And 9 iPods Stolen In 31 Seconds

Apple logo

31 seconds was all it took for five masked thieves to bust an Apple Store i New Jersey wide open and steal 23 MacBook Pros, 14 iPhones and 9 iPod Touches while being recorded by the surveillance cam.

The thieves smashed the window with a blunt object, ran into the store and threatened the security guard with what appeared to be guns (but probably wasn’t).

According to a local TV station the thieves got away with goods worth US$ 10-20,000.

Take a look at how the magnetic MagSafe adapter just seems to pop out  – like it should. Had it been Dell laptops (or another brand for that matter), they would probably have to unplug the power supply first, causing their whole adventure to take a few more seconds… How cool it would be if Apple ran Undercover on the Mac’s and the thieves got caught using that software!

Have a look at the feature from Channel 6:

  1. I wish to say WTF! The Apple Store has got no security or what? This is showcasing how poor management can cause a great loss.

    • I agree with you. What about the security guards.
I think there will not be any security guard to protect the store.

  2. I saw that on MSNBC!!! Sorry to be cruel, but it just looks so hilarious. I’ve never seen so much get stolen, in such a short amount of time. It looks like the video is in fast forward or something. I wonder if authorities caught these guys though.

  3. That sucks for the apple store but they probably got insurance on all of that stuff. I hope the cops get these people. Greg Ellison

  4. I think I once read that Apple didn’t want to use bars on their shop windows for some reason. But yeah, I suppose they have insurance, but I also don’t think that this $10-$20k loss will do much harm in Apple’s financial statement 🙂

  6. Wow, the thieves new exactly what to get and how long it would probably take. This must be one of the fastest jobs I have ever seen. I hope the shop owner has learned something from this experience.

    • I’m not so sure they’ve learned much. I don’t think they’re going to put steel bars or similar on the windows or the laptops, that’s not what Apple Stores are usually like. I guess that’s why they have a security guard walking around at night – though he didn’t do much good in this case.

  7. Interesting news. I’m surprised that these laptops aren’t even locked. You know, like those laptop locks… The Apple stores that I’ve been to are all with locks. I’m here up in Toronto Canada by the way.

They certainly made a huge profit all under 31 seconds 😉
