TechPatio Just Moved To Thesis – The Killer Theme From DIY Themes

thesis-300x250It’s finally here, Thesis! I’ve been waiting for weeks to make my switch to Thesis but I decided to just wait a few more days and do it today, so that I would have had around 2 months of blogging before I started using Thesis. Now it will probably be easier to spot any changes in traffic due to the Thesis switch. I must admit, I doubt it will offer much change traffic wise, as I already used the All In One SEO Pack before, but we’ll see.

Just a heads up though, I’m not completely done yet. I still have some work to do with my sidebars, I’m not happy with the way they are currently organized and I doubt that I will really need that big list of categories out there as well, so that’s one of the things I will need to fine tune over the next few days as well as trying to improve the pages that I link to in the top menu, so their content is presented in a better way, hopefully with an image and excerpt.

I’ve also changed my Top Commentators widget to show top 6 top 10 commentators instead of just 5 as well as resetting it once a month, so be sure to come back every now and then if you want to keep your spot in the top 6 top 10 🙂

I’ll of course be doing a review of Thesis at a later time once I’ve had a chance to really try it out and maybe also been able to determine whether or not it had a direct impact on my (search engine) traffic.

Please sound off in the comments how you like my new theme – but before you go rough, keep in mind, I’m not completely done yet 🙂

Update: For more information about the floating icons in the left, check out this post by George Serradinho: Thesis Floating Icons – Find out how I did it.

  1. I think it looks amazing! You even have the floating icons out there, great colors and cool header, etc. You have all the time in the world to make little changes as you find things you want to try. And – yea! I get to be the first on your Top Commentators, too! 😀

    • Thanks Christie. I also thought about adding StumbleUpon and Digg to the floating icons , but I wanted them to link to my user account with them, not to act as the “digg this post”-kinda thing, but I was afraid that users might find it confusing so I decided just to stick with the ones I have out there now.

  2. Grrrr! Another Thesis theme, at some point I am going to be forced to have an entirely new blog design done just so I can get the Thesis theme rocking.

    • Hehe yes I suppose so, and I can bet you that you will have 5 offers to purchase Thesis through their link in a matter of minutes, once you announce that you want to purchase it 🙂 But so far, I think it’s a great theme.

    • Thanks! I see that I still need to work even more on my sidebars, on long pages (with lots of comments), the ‘gray’ part of the sidebar stops and it goes white, I should probably have that looked at.

  5. Hey, not bad at all! Congrats for entering the Thesis Theme domain. Very catchy floating icons, can’t help to notice them while typing my comments here. ^^ Maybe a little crowded at the upper part of the theme? Maybe it’s just me. I’m easily distracted by words. All the best!

    • Ching, do you mean all the subscribe, search and recent posts – sections? I was thinking of adding a block of three 125×125 ads to the top right corner (where the subscribe/recent posts are now), kinda like to get the ad’s out of the place first and then start my content below it. I’ve seen that format in a number of places, just need to figure out of I should stick with 2 smaller sidebar columns like I do now, of switch to a single wide column instead.

      • Exactly, you can read my mind. ^^In my opinion, having the 125 x 125 ads to replace either one is a nice idea, or maybe move the recent posts section in replacing the Google ads for more visibility while maintained at the upper section. Just a little idea, don’t mind me if you have better arrangement. I know, while migrating I also faced the 2 or 3-column theme dilemma. Perhaps you can sort out what you wish to include first before deciding the sidebar columns. 🙂

    • I’m glad to hear that it’s fast loading as well. It’s hosted in Denmark on not the best servers I’m afraid, but if you’re from the UK you probably have a better connection to it than all my US readers, which are by far the most of my visits 🙂

    • Your current theme looks great, so probably not much reason for changing it to Thesis unless Thesis really has a lot better SEO stuff going on than what your current theme + All In One SEO pack could offer.

You should get a hold of Thesis through my link now that I’ll probably seen be getting OIO through yours 😀

Yes I saw your post about the floating icons, I sould add your link to my post above to give proper credit 🙂 I can’t remember where I found the icons though, it was a site with free social media (handdrawn) icons, that I found recently.

  10. Wow, I agree with first commenter Christie, your brand new site does look amazing. I love your new banner, that’s such a creative idea. I gather the move went well? I wish you the very best in the ongoing work of it all, am sure you shall continue to have fun with it. The floating icons on the left hand side, are a great tip too! No more problems on my side neither. 🙂

    • Thank you very much Ana, I like it too. Also my sidebars are starting to look as I want them to, but in reality, I will never finish the optimization so some things will always move around 🙂 Glad you’re not having access problems anymore, apparently it was something with my old theme – but you were the only one reporting a problem though, hard to say how many other people were having problems and not bothering to tell me.

If you like the floating icons on the left and want them for your site too, you should head over to http://www.serradinho.com/ for more information, that’s where I got the inspiration and the code necessary, too.

It’s SEO and typography is amazing, more over Customization of Thesis might feel little
tricky at the beginning but once you get kick of it, you will enjoy editing and modifying this theme.
