Movie Review: Fanboys (2008) – Kristen Bell, William Shatner, Seth Rogen

Fanboys movie star warsPlot: Star Wars fans travel to Skywalker Ranch to steal an early copy of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999).

Before you read any further, please make sure that you can answer the following 3 questions:

  1. Who tracks down Han Solo and takes him to Jabba The Hutt in Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back?
  2. Who kills Emperor Palpatine?
  3. At the end of Star Wars Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi, which ghosts can Luke see?

If you did not get all three of them right, Fanboys is not a movie for you. Unless you want to see Kristen Bell in a Princess Leia costume.

Being a Star Wars-based movie, the opening credits are of course the usual Star Wars “text flying into space”-method, the last sentence being “sent from my iPhone”, which is the default signature when setting up mail on the iPhone. That bit instantly boosted my hopes for the movie 🙂

Fanboys is a classic “teens roadtrip” movie where they encounter different obstacles a long their way to break into George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch and watch a Star Wars movie, about to be released a few months later.

Did I mention Kristen Bell in a Princess Leia costume?

Finally, at the very end of the movie, the cast raise an interesting question…

I’d recommend renting this movie (not worth buying) if you like Star Wars, Kristen Bell, roadtrips, comedy or if you are curious what it might look like inside George Lucas’ ranch…

Or if you must see Kristen Bell in that Princess Leia costume!

Rating: Rating: 3 out of 5 Apples

Have you seen Fanboys yet or do you plan to rent it anytime soon?

  1. Ha – glad you gave us those three questions – I don’t think this movie is for me. I don’t even think seeing Kristen Bell in the Princess Leia costume would do much for me. 😀 I’m staying tuned to your movie reviews though – I appreciate having the reviews instead of just trying to tell by the cover whether I’d like one or not.

  2. Not sure how I hadn’t heard of this one. My wife laughs at my geekiness, so I may have to add this to my Netflix queue.

    • I wondered the same thing – how I could have missed it. I only noticed it because I was browsing the iTunes Movie Rentals thingy on my Apple TV and after having watched the trailer, it didn’t take me many seconds to hit the rent button… *click*

Unfortunately, my family does not quite comprehend the utter magnificence that Star Wars represents….but I suppose there’s still hope…..a long long time in the future….. 🙂

    • Hi Barbara – thanks for stopping by 🙂

Of course there’s hope, not just any hope… but “A New Hope” 🙂 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Episode_IV:_A_New_Hope)

Otherwise, you’d just have to kick back alone with “Fanboys”.
