July 2010: Blog Summary & Income Report

by Klaus on August 1, 2010

in Announcements, Blogging

I don’t know what happened in July, but the numbers are pretty amazing! Since it’s Summer and with a few major sporting events going on (one ended July 11th, the World Cup in football), I figured that people would either watch TV or be away on vacation – not read blogs. But for some reason, July turned out to be a very good month for me – with double visits and double-double income compared to the previous few months.

Take a look at the numbers below…

TOTAL: $475 $77.06 $56 $56

Conclusion: July ’10

You’re probably curious about the $475 income, right? Well, I was lucky that Ebuzzing had a great opportunity for me in July, bringing in €60 (if you’re a blogger, click here to check out Ebuzzing).

Sponsored Reviews also had a very good month for me. I was quite busy in July (as usual…) so I kept raising my price in Sponsored Reviews to get less offers but the offers just kept coming, I suppose that’s a good thing 🙂 I accepted the offers that I felt I could write about and which I felt was relevant enough to publish on my blog, without the fear of annoying my regular readers (too much). You can never make everybody happy and you’ll always lose readers when you monetize your blog. Too bad – for them. Bloggers need to be able to earn some money and make a potential living from their blogging and if some readers doesn’t think that’s fair, they can find other places to read, am I right? 🙂

The biggest income this month was “direct ad sales” at $175, which covers money I’ve made directly by either contacting advertisers or having them contact me. This can be banner ads, links, reviews etc.

Top 5 Most Viewed Posts: July

In this list, I used to feature top 5 most viewed posts in the previous month – also published in the previous month. I don’t think that it’s fair to posts that was published maybe on the 29th as it would not have had as much time to generate views as posts from the 3rd of July. So from now on, I’ll feature simply top 5 most viewed posts in the previous month – no matter when they were published.

  1. Aperture 3 Performance Fix – Make Slow Aperture Run Faster
  2. Google Street View – More Funny Pictures (Part 1 of 2)
  3. Steadicam For iPhone. What’s A Steadicam (Merlin), Anyway?
  4. Top 10 Most Hyped Gadgets Of All Time
  5. Wii Megan Fox (pictures included!)

That’s just awesome. An overall increase in almost every stat is definitely worth being proud of. Especially in these warm summertimes.

I hope this positive development will continue for you!

This is great! You should be very proud of yourself. In one short year you blogged your way into a very competitive niche and already have good traffic and money coming in too!

I have only been using adsense on my blog and I still can’t master its proper usage. Perhaps I need to do more research on that, and I might want to consider some of the income sources you have shown in your summary. 🙂

AdSense is not worth much for me either. But the two biggest improvements I’ve done to is to increase my skyscraper banner from 120px width to 160px and make it image instead of text. And then I also include a square AdSense box at the top of most posts, that gets many clicks too.

AdSense is about trying out and using channels to figure out what pays best. It will take you some time.

My AdSense account is on a few other websites but I don’t do any work with them so in total they account for maybe one or two dollars per month. All the other income are only for TechPatio.

I wish I could Anne, but I really don’t know much about it 🙂 I just used my ressources within the Become A Blogger course to figure out how much to charge, because most advertisers come directly to me through my Contact-form.

I wouldn’t even begin to dream about doubling traffic each month – it’ll be an impossible task for me, since I don’t have the time needed to achieve it 🙂 But I’m sure I can double the traffic, but it’s not going to be next month already.

Wow, that’s simply amazing!

Look at the dramatic rise in traffic between the months – those articles are perfect for pulling in social media traffic.

It also makes me want to look deeper into sponsored reviews – I’ve set up an account but have yet bothered to really go after it. Looking at the revenue it definitely seems worth giving it a shot.

Hey Klaus,

First of all congratulations! Secondly, I was just wondering how long you have been working on your site for? Basically, I am interested in knowing how long it took you to go from basically $0 per month to $400.

Just curious :]

Hi Keith,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question. TechPatio.com is just a little over a year old.

Thanks for the response. Did you ever find it difficult when starting up? One of the problems many individuals face (including myself) is that we spend a great deal of time at the start with few results. It is only with persistence that things begin to pay off (and results appear at all).

Yeah, sure. All (most?) start-ups takes time to succeed and might be difficult. That’s what seperates winners from the losers, they stick with it and doesn’t give up easily.

This is great, I’m running a forum where we have a LOT of people working at companies who think that listing 9000 things they may or may not make and offering to supply them is the height of community involvement. and to have a summery income report is god for small companies i also own a mall company and i can understand the problem of income report anyways good post really helpful thanks for sharing.
