Eztun – The Simplest Way to Anonymous Web Surfing

We live in a world where the only threat is not what you might encounter down on the streets – but also what you might encounter online. On the Internet, the threats are numerous. Somebody can hack your wireless network and get access to your data or someone can exploit a security hole in your computer operating system and get access to your data that way. But that’s not all. Your online activities are constantly being monitored as well. What sites you visit, what your IP address is, what operating system and browser you’re using, what data you might be sending out on the Internet.

You don’t need to be wearing a tinfoil hat to have a desire for a bit more privacy online. One way of gaining just that, is by signing up to a service such as Eztun which is perhaps the simplest way to an anonymous web experience. With a free 3-day trial, most Windows users (2003, XP, Vista and 7) can take it for a spin already today and test it out – without any obligation to buy a subscription.

Getting it to work couldn’t be easier. Personally, I’m a Mac user, so I had to boot my Windows computer to try this software out. I had no issue – at all – getting it to work. When you click the download button, you’re asked to create an account. You don’t even need to put your name etc., all they need, is an e-mail address and a password of your choice. That’s it. Then the download begins and you can install the software.

Once installed and launched, you’re presented with this window (above). Enter your e-mail address as username and the password you entered before. Select what location you want to appear to be surfing from and click “Connect”. That’s the simplest way to do it. When you’re connected, you can verify your IP address by going to a site such as www.ip-address.com.

That’s really all there is to it. Now you’re surfing more anonymously – more than you were before.

If you like the service, you can buy a subscription. They range from Starter, Silver, Gold and Platinum packages which gives you 7, 14, 30 and 60 days, respectively. Prices are $7, $11, $20.95 and $29.95. The longer period you buy, the cheaper your daily cost (as low as just $0.50).

Word of caution: When you’re dealing with money-related sites such as NetEller or Moneybookers, or other major membership-based websites, you might want to turn off whatever proxy service you’re using, such as Eztun. The reason is that such sites very often employ different fraud detection services and looking at the IP address is just one of them – if you’re signed up as being from Europe, you might trigger an alarm when visiting from a United States IP address. But besides that, surfing anonymously using Eztun might give you peace of mind.

Go check out the free 3-day trial.
