TechPatio Updated to Thesis 1.8 and WordPress 3.0.1

WordPress 3.0 has been out for some time now but I don’t feel comfortable upgrading to a new major version until at least one bug fix has been issued, so when 3.0.1 came out, I was ready to upgrade. Unfortunately I was about to go on vacation so I didn’t have time – but now I finally did it and TechPatio.com is now running WordPress 3.0.1.

What’s new in WordPress 3.0? I have no idea, I’m sure there’s some new features but I mostly just upgraded to make sure I had the latest security updates and enhancements.

The main theme on TechPatio.com has been Thesis for a long time now and I also just updated from Thesis 1.7 to Thesis 1.8. If you’re still on the old Thesis, here’s three reasons why you should update to 1.8:

1. New Header Image and Favicon Uploaders

With each new release, Thesis gets easier to customize, and Thesis 1.8 is
no exception. The brand-new header image and favicon uploaders will allow
you to add a personal touch to your site in seconds. You’ll LOVE how easy
these things are to use!

2. New Fonts from the Google Font Directory

In May, Google released an extremely cool library of fonts that can be
embedded into any website. Thesis 1.8 harnesses the power of the Google
Font Directory and now provides you with 28 new fonts to use on your
website!

3. New Security Enhancements

Thesis 1.8 not only incorporates WordPress nonce field protection, but it
also boasts a refined data-handling system that will help keep your sits
both safe and stable. Take advantage of it the additional security by
upgrading now!

Not yet running Thesis? Oh boy, you really should check it out! The baseline benefits of Thesis are rock-solid SEO, outstanding typography, point and click design controls that gives you a full range of customization opportunities, free support forums with more than 30,000 members, and a detailed user-guide! Click here to try out Thesis (30 day money-back guarantee).

(I first updated my WordPress 2.9.2 to 3.0.1 within the WordPress Dashboard. Then I downloaded Thesis 1.8 and uploaded it to a new thesis_18 subfolder by following the instructions on the Thesis website. Finally I went to WordPress Dashboard – Apperance to select Thesis 1.8 as my theme – never encountered any problems!).

  1. I upgraded a blog to the WP3.0.1 today. I’m fine with my current Thesis and not in the mood to go through their upgrade routine. Should have been something as simple as the WP upgrade but it’s not.

  2. Well, I also upgraded WP and Thesis and had no problems at all. Although Thesis has updated a few things, I would still like to see some sort of options for the footer to help users out there.

  6. I also upgraded my Theme to latest Thesis 1.8 since I’m using more of custom css so I don’t need to use any new feature in Thesis 1.8 but keeping an eye on Thesis 2.0 which is suppose to have lots of new features….
