Both Microsoft and Apple released their newest operating systems in 2009 and according to a British opinion survey by YouGov, Microsoft’s operating system was the software users were most satisfied with.
YouGov followed the “satisfaction rating” for Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard for the past 6 months. A group of users were asked to give their opinion on a regular basis.
The rating system used by YouGov goes from 0 to 100 percent and when Windows 7 was released in October 2009 the satisfaction rating went up to 67%. In the last day of 2009 it was at 73%, the highest rating YouGove has recorded since they started in 2007.
When Apple released Snow Leopard, ratings were at 64% and after that the rating just slowly decreased and never reached the same level as Windows 7:
Some things to consider regarding the YouGov results:
- It’s no secret that Microsoft worked hard on releasing a better operating system than Vista which got a lot of heat. Many users didn’t upgrade or buy a new computer to avoid Vista, thus they waited for Windows 7.
- - Microsoft now has an improved search engine, Bing, which is bound to increase the user experience and satisfaction within Windows 7 (remember, many users don’t change their default browser search engine).
- - It’s also no secret that Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard wasn’t released with a ton of new features, instead they optimized on what they had to make it faster, leaner and more stable. Could by why many users were “disappointed” by Snow Leopard.
- - It’s unknown exactly how many users participated in this study.

I used to use XP, but when I bought my new computer I got Vista with a free upgrade to windows 7. I was really not happy with Vista, but 7 is amazing! I am definitely one of the positive users!

Haha… None of them are used by me. Still stuck with Windows Vista now.

You should have upgraded yours to Windows 7. Vista is like Windows 7’s unfinished product!

I don’t use Vista or Win 7 but it’s also my understand that more users are way more happy with Windows 7 than Vista, so I usually also recommend users to upgrade to Windows 7 if possible – unless of course they’re interested in a Mac or I can convince them to go the Linux Ubuntu way in case they just need word processing, internet and e-mail.
The Internet cafes in my country are very satisfied with XP so they are a bit reluctant to upgrade to Windows 7. I hope that that Windows 7 could do the job as well as XP did.

I guess we can’t blame them. Windows XP had it’s flaws but it’s still amazing that it managed to run for this long and in many cases it ran just fine, if you didn’t mess it up too much.
I first tested the beta and can’t stop myself to jump from XP to Windows 7. I just love this OS. Faster and better solution. I don’t have any idea on Mac OS.
