I launched this blog, TechPatio.com, back in 2009, all by myself, with the help from nobody else. I did every single thing myself. It didn’t take me long to figure out that I needed somebody to make a logo for me, and graphics, well, is not my strong side. I can do most other things tech/developing related, but graphics is way out of my league. That’s why I decided to outsource it.
Here are 4 good reasons why you should consider outsourcing work to a freelancer:
1) You simply don’t know how to do it. Like in my case above, I have no clue about graphics, I would never have been able to do that task myself.
2) You’re not very good at it. Even if I did know a little bit of graphics, chances are it would be much better “value for money” to hire a freelancer to do the work for me. Sometimes it’s better to pay somebody an hour to do work that you would otherwise have spent 5 hours on yourself.
3) You need it done fast and you’re swamped. Let’s face it, sometimes life can be a struggle and we’re just too busy for our own good. Things keep coming in, even when we have plenty to do – so outsource some of the simpler, time consuming tasks, so you can focus on doing what only you can do – or what you do best.
4) You’re burned out. For example, you need to write an article about something, but alas, you caught the “writers block” bug, and you need the piece done by Friday. Outsource it – you get it done, and you’ll get another perspective. This also applies to many other things of course, such as graphics. Sometimes it’s good to see how somebody else would solve a task.
And finally, a bonus tip, if you can outsource to a freelancer – then you can be a freelancer yourself. If there’s something you’re good at it, you can do work from home freelance and let others outsource to you. In this economy, I guess most of us could use an extra dollar here and there.
