The Sony Xperia Tablet S – A Place for Your Imagination to Play

There is a flurry of tablet computers in the market today and while some offers usability, a lot are just poorly-made rip-off gadgets trying to vie in the tablet market.  Buying a tablet these days can be quite difficult as many claim theirs to be better or more powerful.  The thing is, buying a tablet can be decided with just three things: if you want to be popular, then go for the more popular brands; if you want to be cheap, then go for low-end poorly-made types; if you want to be different, then you ought to go for the Sony Xperia™ Tablet S.We all know the Xperia™ brand from Sony and how good they are at making smartphones. Well, Sony decided to hand over the designing of the tablet to its mobile department and they did not fall short from expectations as they have come up with the [tp lang=”en” only=”y”]Xperia™ Tablet S[/tp][tp not_in=”en”]Xperia™ Tablet S[/tp] – a uniquely designed tablet with user-friendly functionality that can compete with the most popular and most powerful tablets available in the market today.

At first glance, you will notice that the Xperia™ Tablet has a wedge-shaped aluminum slim body design which is aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  Upon closer inspection, you will also learn that the unit is splash proof and you can use it even if your fingers are wet.  The unit has a 9.4-inch OptiContrast™ screen with 1280 x 800 resolution IPS display, which is highly sufficient enough to satisfy your gaming, movie, and internet surfing needs.  The ClearAudio+ sound enhancement, on the other hand, will allow you to effortlessly enjoy quality audio from your music or video collection.

The Xperia™ Tablet S comes equipped with a 1.4 GHz NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 quad-core processor and comes with an Android 4.0.3. “Ice Cream Sandwich” out of the box.  This provides you with the power you need to enjoy the multitude of apps, media, and games available for the Android platform.  The unit also comes equipped with a 1-megapixel HD web camera on the front and an 8-megapixel camera at the rear, both using backside illumination CMOS sensor for greater light sensitivity and high resolutions.

The Xperia™ Tablet S is loaded with unique features such as the ability to personalize it.  You can customize your home screen, applications, wallpapers, and icon layouts exactly how you want them.  In addition, the “Guest Mode” allows you to create additional user profiles for friends and family so they have their own unique Xperia™ Tablet S experience.  Creating a new account is fairly easy and generally does what it intends – the lockdown of any software of your choice.  If you are a parent, this feature makes it a great limiting tool for apps you don’t want your kids to have access to.

The overall interface of the Xperia™ Tablet S is filled with plenty of interesting app shortcuts.  It also includes embedded mini apps and widget shortcuts found at the bottom of the screen for quicker access.  Aside from other Android apps that you can use, the tablet also has a unique downloadable application from Sony called the “Socialife”.  This app allows you to organize, view, and sort your social media so you can keep up-to-date with friends and news feeds.  Since this is an app made for/by Sony, expect it to cross platforms with other Sony computers like the VAIO PCs.  Since Sony is also the maker of the world renowned Playstation gaming platform, don’t expect the Xperia™ to be short on mobile games.  This makes the Sony [tp lang=”en” only=”y”]Xperia™ Tablet[/tp][tp not_in=”en”]Xperia™ Tablet[/tp] a place for your imagination to play.

A personal favorite feature of mine is the built-in Universal Remote Control app.  Since the unit is equipped with an infra-red blaster, it allows you to control your TV, music system, cable box, home entertainment system and other devices, regardless of brand, using just the tablet.  This is quite convenient especially if you have a multitude of IR-controlled devices at home.

The Xperia™ Tablet S is indeed a great device with a feature-pack of home-grown apps that covers not just music and video, but also social media.  Style, features, and functionality are the makings of a good tablet and the Sony Xperia™ Tablet S performs well in all three aspects.  This truly makes the Xperia™ Tablet S the perfect tablet computer for those who want to be different!

This looks pretty slick and the remote control capability really sets it apart.

Personally, I’m over tablets and my go to device is the 13″ MB Air.
