Jelly Bean Outshines iOS6 as Apple scrimp on R&D

One great, new piece of technology after another has been revealed at the CES 2013 conference in Las Vegas. One of the most exciting developments is the improvements of the Jelly Bean operating system. This is even more important when put up against the criticism Apple has received for its latest offering, iOS6. Reports of R&D spending as low as 2% seem to be backfiring, compounded by claims that the iPad mini, spec-wise, is in fact a step backwards.

Jelly Bean’s Perks

Google’s Jelly Bean, also known as Android 4.2 is the best piece of technology yet. It has been upgraded to bring users new features such as advanced photo editing and a notification s shortcut and other improved functions such as offline voice typing, Google Now. If you’re still not convinced that it tops iOS6, take a look at the following features.

The new Android 4.2 is more user friendly than ever. Instead of searching for Wi-Fi access and brightness settings icons, the Quick Settings icon makes them readily available. The operating system now employs lock screen widgets which enable users to read emails and updates without unlocking the screen. Additionally, it has the optional gesture keyboard to swipe words instead of typing them out. After market downloads are also allowed at the click of a button, whereas with Apple the iPhone must be jail broken in order to fully customize it. Lastly, the Photo Sphere camera feature lets users take a360 degree panorama of their surroundings.

The improved Jelly Bean runs smoother and faster. The operating system also takes advantage of Google’s advanced search capabilities. The Google Now application, which learns your interests and habits and then offers you information that is tailored to your preferences, is not new, but significantly improved. Enhancements include location based notifications for events, details on flights and the ability to track shipping, among others. Google’s voice search, which is a part of Knowledge Graph, is much more precise and reliable than Apple’s Siri. Furthermore, Jelly Bean is much more customizable than the iOS6.

Exclusive Apps

In addition to being compatible with most of the iOS6 apps, there is a multitude of apps that are solely available to android users on Google Play. Some of the best apps include. AidDroid app, which lets users control their phone wirelessly from your web browser; Smart Tools, which measures heights, distances, sounds, direction and more; Chrome to Phone, which brings the Google Chrome browser from your desktop to your phone, Netflix and Google Maps.

With all this new and improved technology, one question remains.  What is happening to Apple? While Microsoft and other big companies like Samsung were spending tons of money on research and development to create better, faster, more reliable and more desirable technology, Apple, for the first time since they revolutionized the world of mp3 with their iPod, seems to be showing the first signs of lagging behind. Samsung increased its spending by nearly 40 percent last year, which proves that putting money, time and research into developing products does pay off.  Their new smart televisions lets users search for shows over-the-air and online, multitask by watching TV and use apps, and browse the internet faster. It also has enhanced voice and motion control systems which makes operating them a breeze. Of course there is a long way to go before the myth is dispelled from Silicon Valley that you only choose Android if you can’t afford Apple products, but it seems that the rest of the world may be waking up to that fact.

  1. The Cold Tech War Between will go on Until New Operating System comes up for Mobile. Android and iOS both have thier own Audience, and hence finding Upper hand among each other. Still as Android’s app Library is Large enough and a good phone comes with a valid cost people will prefer Android but iPhone have it’s own Pros

  2. I have high hopes for iOS 7 and Jony Ive. But then again, I’m not sure how he/they can come up with in just half a year time or less 🙁 If nothing fancy happening on iOS7, I might really switch to Android

  3. Popularity of Android devices is growing rapidly in short time because of its open source feature that make it more popular then iOS devices. Apple is again in his tough time to beat Android market but this time Apple will be sure at second position.
