SONY DSCVideo game consoles have been around since the 1960s. The first working game console was created by Ralph Baer in 1966.

Today, there are far too many of them with some even incorporating CD players, DVD players, web browsers and set-top boxes among others. They come in various shapes, sizes, designs and colors and can display video games including the Kickstarter indie games in clear and crisp as well as high definition graphics.

Price-wise, the cost of these gaming devices has soared through the years. The newly released ones normally command a higher price.

NeoGeo

Originally priced at $650 and adjust for inflation at $1,116, Neo-Geo released in 1991 featured impressive graphics compared to
its arcade rivals. It was sold initially to only hotels bars and restaurants but was widely distributed eventually when the
company saw that gamers were willing to pay the price.

3Do

The 3Do was originally sold at $700 and was very expensive at the time of its release in 1993. Although it got the “Produce of
the Year awar from Time Magazine in 1994, this console by Trip Hawkins of Electronic Arts failed to succeed and got discontinued
two years after.

Philips CDi

This game console created Philips and released in 1991 also failed to capture the hearts of gamers and lasted only for seven
years. Priced at $700 upon its release, the system didn’t sell quite well and sold only one million units. It was discontinued in
1998.

Sega Saturn

Released in 1995, the Sega Saturn commanded a price of $613. Its 32-bit graphics and dual CPUs made it a hit among gamers.

Sony Playstation

Sony has always been very competitive in the gaming console industry. There’s no doubt that its console Playstation is among the
most widely used these days by both kids and adults.

The first Playstation console released in 1995 sold at $460. Its high price was due to the inclusion of a CD player. Today, this
console is considered the fourth best selling gaming system of all time.

Playstation 3 released in 2005 was sold much higher at $696.

Xbox

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 released in 2005 was worth $100 more than it predecessor at $479. This gaming console has already sold more
than 77 million units and is still enjoying brisk sales.

The latest model released in 2013 called Xbox One costs a bit higher at $499.
