4 Future Car Technologies for Safe Driving

As we all know, the world is changing, and fortunately, for the better. In the auto industry, new technologies and inventions are not rare at all, and some of them don’t even make it to the production phase.

Nowadays, most of these new car technologies are focused on safety and entertainment, but the truth is that safety is becoming more important than entertainment, which is a good thing.

Based on what’s currently being tested, we have an idea what will happen in the world of cars, and which technologies will probably make it to the production line, so let’s take a good look at them.

Cars that can communicate

This sounds something like straight out of a science fiction movie or a novel, but it’s the truth. A simple wireless technology promises to make driving much safer in a couple of years. Many cars already have instruments that use ultrasound or radar to detect obstacles or other vehicles. Unfortunately, the range of those sensors is limited, and they cannot see past the nearest obstruction, which is obviously not that great.

Car-to-car communication lets cars broadcast information about their speed, position, brake status and other relevant data to other vehicles. The other cars use that information to prevent any potential accidents. This technology might completely change the way we drive in just a couple of years, and it will probably prevent a lot of crashes and accidents.

Airbags that stop cars

Airbags are just one of those things that you can’t help but wonder how they haven’t been invented earlier. Ever since they showed up, they’ve made their way inside of our cars. We now have them in side airbags, curtain airbags, knee airbags, and even seatbelt airbags.

Mercedes took airbags one step further. This company is experimenting with airbags that deploy from underneath the car! These airbags will deploy only if and when sensors determine that a collision is inevitable.

Self-driving cars

This idea is not a new idea by any standard, but more and more companies are nowadays focusing on making self-driving cars. We can already see Google’s cars being tested, and for now, the results of those tests are fairly positive. The cars made by Google can see traffic lights before a person can, and they can also find alternative routes.

These future cars use technologies such as lasers, radars, and cameras to analyze the road, and they’re able to do that much faster than any human can.

Unfortunately, car crashes are still a reality because safe-driving cars haven’t been approved in Australia yet. If you’re currently living on the smallest continent, and you don’t have roadside assistance, compare the products of a reliable company that has the motto of ‘’Delivering Australia’s best roadside assistance is our goal’’, and make sure that you’re completely safe on the road by picking the right product for yourself!

Augmented reality dashboards

Fortunately, computer graphics became much more sophisticated in recent years, and we don’t have to look at tiny pixels anymore. Video games have entertained us for many, many years, and right now engineers are trying to put graphics from your gaming systems into the real world.

This exciting and new technology basically blurs the line between what we perceive as reality and computer-generated images by enhancing what we hear and see. According to Wayne Cunningham, the projection technology is now production-ready, and AR makes an important new safety feature.

Hopefully, most of these technologies will make it to the production line because they have the potential to save lives and make the roads safer. However, even if they don’t, they will probably give us valuable information which we can use for future car technologies.

  1. Great post! It’s marvelous really when we contemplate the fact that our cars have come so far since the old days. Aside from safety features, and particularly interested in vehicle AI that offer suggestions on the best driving practices. As you said, the idea “cars that can communicate” sound straight out of a science fiction movie, but I’m glad to know that these ideas are finally coming to life.

Cheers! And thank you for this post. I just won a debate with my girlfriend because of features you mentioned here lol

  2. Yup, what seems unbelievable and unfathomable today, that will be the actuality within few years. Technology is materially expanding and it feels like nothing is impossible for the human being. Recently, the Artificial Intelligence is taking its first leap and it will definitely transform the way we live. Not only in automobiles, rather it will help in every sector. In future, I don’t think there will be a word like ‘safe driving’. There is a cut-throat competition in the car industries, therefore, innovative things in the market are inevitable.
