Evolution of Drones

Drones have been used for many purposes to this day for commercial, business and also governments.   How have drones evolved for what we see of them today? As technology develops and becomes available for everyone to use and support, drones however were initially developed and used by the military.

The first time this technology was tested was during World War 1. In 1935 British developed a number of different radio-controlled air vehicles in which Queen Bee was a significant innovative plane. It was during this time that the term “Drone” was first used. UK and USA continued to develop different types of drones and started making significant advancements in drone technology.

Abraham Karem developed the first drone for Israeli Air Force and then moved to the USA in the 1970s to work on the same technology. He founded his own company named Leading Systems Inc., which achieved a lot of success, and as a result, he was termed as “Drone Father”.

Some of the most common applications are drones are.

Developed mainly for military-related application, drones still play a significant role in that. Military drones are used for surveillance, search and rescue and various other applications.

Drones are also being used in commercial aerial surveillance. Farmers commonly use drones to monitor their crops and livestock over vast areas.  Drones also found their use in the fire department and it is used to track and map wildfires when they occur. They can also be used to inspect tall structures and for further inspection within confined spaces such as chimneys and shafts.

Drones are also commonly used for aerial photography, movies, sporting events but to name a few rely on drones to deliver outstanding footage.  A piece of technology is paying dividends to many organisations worldwide.

The technology has also been crucial in supporting life-saving efforts such as disaster relief, medication delivery in remote areas and search and rescue.  As they are widely available ranging in differing costs, drones have been used for recreational purposes, from bike riding over hills, weddings and many other type of events.

Drone racing is an exciting sporting event with hundreds of players participating all over the world.  The sport is funded by large organisations with leagues in countries such as Australia, Asia, South Africa and Europe.

Drones now are equipped with 4k footage, video stabilisation and transport ready and much lighter than previous models in over the years.  Although it may be a task to find the one for you, with so many choices in models, features and style.  You don’t need to be an expert or someone who has had experience handling a drone; the technology has evolved that it can be flown of the box.  There is however some restrictions over some areas where permits may be required or no fly zones.
