“Entourage” Has Blown Me Away – I Love That Show!

Entourage is not a new tv show. It first began in 2004 and is now up to its 7th season. I’ve heard about the show a few times but thought it sounded boring. I mean, it’s about this actor guy in Hollywood who hangs out with his 3 friends, one being his manager, another being his brother and the third is a friend of them all. Sounds boring, right?

Yeah that’s what I thought. But I had this one friend who just couldn’t stop talking about it. So I found a few of the first episodes and I was hooked immediately. I went straight to Amazon to purchase the DVDs for the first season ($17 at Amazon US – click here). Even before I finished first season, I had also ordered season 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. I just began watching season 6 so I’m almost through the entire show – just need to wait for season 7 to be out on DVD. I hate watching TV shows that only airs one episode per week – if I find a show I like, I’d rather wait till at least one season is out so I can purchase the complete season and watch multiple episodes after one another.

Entourage is like Sex and the City – except it’s better and it’s clearly written with a male audience in mind, not females like Sex and the City. That’s just what I think

Entourage is an American comedy-drama television series that premiered on HBO on July 18, 2004. The series was created and is largely written by Doug Ellin and chronicles the rise of Vincent Chase, a young A-list movie star, and his childhood friends from Queens, New York City, as they navigate the unfamiliar terrain of Hollywood, California.

Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson serve as the show’s co-executive producers, and the show’s premise is loosely based on Wahlberg’s experiences as an up-and-coming film star. The series deals with themes of male friendship and wild life in Hollywood. In accordance with this, numerous celebrities have guest-starred on the show.

Executive producer Mark Wahlberg confirmed that after the seventh season, six more episodes will air in 2011 concluding the series, which will then be followed by a film adaptation.

I would love to show a few “best momens of ”-videos, but there’s no point. If you haven’t seen the show yet, you probably wouldn’t find them funny.

I suggest you give it a shot, chances are you’ll like it. Entourage has an IMDb score of 9.2 out of 10 – that’s really, really good!

Movie Review: From Paris with Love (John Travolta)

From Paris with Love is a 2010 action/chrime/thriller movie with an iMDb rating of 6.4 out of 10, not really impressive rating. After watching the movie, I wouldn’t call it “cinema worthy”, but it’s not a bad way of spending the 92 minutes watching it as a rental movie. Yes, it’s only 92 minutes.

On iTunes Store, where I rented it with my Apple TV, it had a much better rating than on iMDb which is why I rented it in the first place. I don’t regret it though, as having said, it’s okay for a movie rental to spend 1.5 hours on it.

From Paris with Love features John Travolta as the most-known actor but also Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Amber Rose Revah, Eric Godon and Sami Darr. As for John Travolta, I think he’s in general a good actor and in this movie, he’s really bad ass, making Jack Bauer and Chuck Norris seem like babysitters

The movie itself is really simple with the “usual plot” from many action movies. There’s the good guys (John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers) that will have to protect a delegation against the bad guys. There’s only a few twists in it so you don’t really have to think much in this movie, it’s mostly a “sit back, relax and enjoy some HD and surround sound action”-kinda movie.

I’m rating this movie with 3 apples out of 5. One apple for John Travolta, one for managing to entertain me for the full 92 minutes and one for the action.

Rent it if you can – don’t buy it.

Plot: An IRS agent with a fateful secret embarks on an extraordinary journey of redemption by forever changing the lives of seven strangers.

I’m gonna let the cat out of the bag on this right now; this movie is fantastic and I strongly recommend you watch it, unless you’re only into action movies and such.

Seven Pounds is a movie up along side, or even better, than Pass It On (Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt) and almost – in my eyes and in this genre of movies – as good as The Shawshank Redemption (number #1 on the Top 250 IMDb list of all time).

Seven Pounds really touched me like only very few other movies ever did, including the two above mentioned movies.

Will Smith is always a great actor and he does really well in this movie. I think I can safely say, without too many spoilers, that Will Smiths character carries a great secret in Seven Pounds and he is looking for seven people for which he can greatly improve their lifes. And it’s not just a matter of giving them money, it’s far more than that.

This is one of those movies that makes you – or me, at least – think about life and appreciate it just a little bit more.

In general, I try to be as helpful and friendly towards others as I possibly can, but I’m also always keeping my guard up, because there’s so many people out there just trying to take advantage of you. What Will Smiths character did in this movie was really something!

I wish I could do the same for other people, just not as extreme – but who knows, maybe one day…

I actually thought this movie was from 2009 as it said so on Apple TV where I rented it, but according to the Internet Movie Database, it’s from 2008 – maybe it was made in 2008 but released for rental/DVD in 2009.

Plot: Star Wars fans travel to Skywalker Ranch to steal an early copy of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999).

Before you read any further, please make sure that you can answer the following 3 questions:

Who tracks down Han Solo and takes him to Jabba The Hutt in Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back?
Who kills Emperor Palpatine?
At the end of Star Wars Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi, which ghosts can Luke see?

If you did not get all three of them right, Fanboys is not a movie for you. Unless you want to see Kristen Bell in a Princess Leia costume.

Being a Star Wars-based movie, the opening credits are of course the usual Star Wars “text flying into space”-method, the last sentence being “sent from my iPhone”, which is the default signature when setting up mail on the iPhone. That bit instantly boosted my hopes for the movie

Fanboys is a classic “teens roadtrip” movie where they encounter different obstacles a long their way to break into George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch and watch a Star Wars movie, about to be released a few months later.

Did I mention Kristen Bell in a Princess Leia costume?

Finally, at the very end of the movie, the cast raise an interesting question…

I’d recommend renting this movie (not worth buying) if you like Star Wars, Kristen Bell, roadtrips, comedy or if you are curious what it might look like inside George Lucas’ ranch…

Or if you must see Kristen Bell in that Princess Leia costume!

Movie Review: Knowing (2009) – Nicolas Cage

Plot: A teacher opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son’s elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions — some that have already occurred and others that are about to — that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold.

As the plot explains, Knowing is a movie about predictions. Nicolas Cage, in his character John Koestler, questions the universe – is it all random or was it planned all along, that the earth is exactly at a distance from the sun where it would allow life to live as we know it?

The movie has some stunning special effects that will blow you away – specially if you crank up the volume on your surround sound system.

Story wise, it’s a typical “we must save the world”-kinda story, where you follow John Koestler (Nicolas Cage), his son and a woman they meet along their journey to find out what’s going on.

The question is – do they manage to save the earth or is it finally the end of life as we know it?

You’ll find a few nice twists, not too many and not too crazy either.

If you liked War Of the Worlds, The Day After Tomorrow, The Day The Earth Stood Still and movies like that, Knowing is a must-see. Be sure to watch it with Surround sound if you can – the special effects deserve it.

Nicolas Cage is not what he used to be and I don’t think this movie did anything to change my opinion about him, so I’ll be rating it 3 apples out of 5. Definitely worth watching (as a rental, don’t buy it!), but don’t expect a miracle.
