Is the tech support team of your hosting provider just not responding to your questions? Are you often intrigued by the promotions that your current hosting provider does while asking you to upgrade the system for a better security (After all, they promise security when you buy the package initially)? Well, these are signals to get rid of your current host and move to a new one.

Although a pretty straightforward process, the whole idea of backing up database, application and scripts horrifies webmasters. However, you don’t need to be afraid of all the technicalities; you really don’t need to be a techno freak to move to your new host. Follow the simple steps mentioned below and enjoy a hassle free switch to the new hosting provider:

Set up your new hosting account

First of all, sign up for your new hosting account. Most of the reputed hosting providers take 24 hours to activate your account. But, the general activation time may well be less than 24 hours and once things are completed, you will be sent an automated email stating your username and password. This should also include instructions stating how you can transfer your website files into the new hosting account. If the hosting provider takes more than 24 hours to activate the account, you should not think twice and register with the hosting provider that you have next in your list (You must have shortlisted the best options for your website already, right)?

In case you are not sure, there are plenty of reputed hosting providers such as Midphase or ANhosting. Don’t worry about the price, there are plenty of discount coupons available in the market and by availing any of those, you can easily save a lot of bucks.

Once activated, the hosting provider most probably will come up with a static IP address or may be a temporary hostname, make sure to keep a note of that.

Back up your website files and database

Create one temporary hard-drive in your local system.

Using FTP (Most used and convenient as well), copy the entire website files into this new directory.

You should use correct mode while downloading website files, for images, use BINARY mode and for PHP/Perl/HTML/ASP, use ASCII mode.

Now, coming to the backup database part! If you are using Access database, just download the latest copy into your local machine hard drive. The situation is a bit different with MySQL or PostGreSQL databases as in these cases; you need to dump of the tables.

Uploading to the new host

Just replicate everything that you have in your local system hard drive once the new hosting account is activated. Remember one thing; the CGI/Perl scripts should not be directly uploaded. You should first check out with your hosting provider to understand the exact path to Perl and then adjust the same. In case of MySQL databases, the tables are needed to be re-inserted into the new hosting account.

Checking the website after moving is complete

Open your internet browser.

Try out your website with the new IP address that your new hosting address must have provided to you. For example, if your IP address is 64.68.53.21, you should check whether this address: http://64.68.53.21 opens up fine or not.

If you click on some of the pages of your site, this may lead you to the old site. You don’t need to panic if this happens. This is known as absolute linking and with this format, one page links to other pages like “http://www.yourdomain.com/someotherpage.html”. In case of relative linking, it would have been linked like “someotherpage.html” and you would have not faced this problem. No need to be worried though. Once you transfer the domain to the new hosting account, things should start working smoothly.

Final thing to do is to check out whether the scripts and other rather complex functionalities of your website are doing good or not.

So, with the entire moving to a new host procedure explained above, what you need now is a Midphase coupon code or an ANhosting coupon code. These will help you in saving up some bucks that you may put to some use for the betterment of your website. Just remember one thing, during the entire moving procedure, if you face any problem, the hosting provider customer representative should be available for your help.

CleanGenius 3.0

As the name implies, the app is a genius at cleaning. It will perform the following tasks on your Mac:

Fast Clean: Clean out various caches, system cache, logs, trash, downloads.

Duplicates: Scan your computer for duplicates within documents, videos, music etc.

Disk Usage: Scan your entire drive to find out what files/folders takes up most space (this feature one is my favorite!).

Uninstall: Help you uninstall your Mac apps by also making sure that the apps’ log files, settings etc. are removed as well.

Free Memory: Shows a pie of your free, wired, active and inactive memory and allows you to free up memory by the click of a button.

Login Items: Lets you add/remove items from login (when you boot your Mac).

CleanGenius 3.0 does what it says on the tin – it just works, there’s not much more to it than that. All features can be seen on EaseUS’s website.

“Disk Usage” (screenshot above) is my favorite feature. Every now and then I’ll fire it up and scan my drive(s) and drill down to see what folders are taking up most space on my disks, when I need to do a bit of cleaning.

Get a FREE CleanGenius 3.0 license worth $29.95

Like mentioned above, TechPatio will offer a free giveaway of 14 licenses to this app. All you have to do, is leave a comment below and that’s it.

Not to worry – most causes of performance problems can be avoided. Take note of the following 5 things that slow your PC down.

An overfilled hard drive

Generally, the more full the hard drive is, the slower it gets. When there’s too much in your hard drive, it leaves less free space for it to perform the required tasks.

What to do: The solutions is simple: free up the hard drive. It should have at least 300MB free to function effectively. Discard all unnecessary files, especially large items like graphics and videos. For things you aren’t willing to get rid of, move them to an external storage device such as an external hard drive. Also check for accumulated junk (like temp files) and delete them – be sure to empty the recycle bin afterward. Liberate more space by uninstalling all the programs you don’t use.

Viruses, spyware and other malware

Malware or malicious software are programs that mess with your computer and prevent it from functioning the way it should. Any system can be infected through normal use, particularly from untrustworthy downloads or shared storage devices.

What to do: It’s a must for every user to have a good anti-virus and spyware/adware removal program. Most of the trusted brands can be bought online. Run a scan regularly, at least once a week. And since new malware are bred every so often, make sure to update continually.

As a precaution, avoid installing disreputable applications, and resist the urge to download content from untrusted sources, no matter how cool they seem.

Overheating

Overheating corrupts the components of your PC, and leads to permanent hardware damage.

What to do: As a preventive measure, place your PC in a cool spot, far from hot devices. Maintaining cleanliness also helps a lot – since dust insulates heat, it’s beneficial to keep the CPU clean and dust-free.

If overheating still occurs, seek a technician to inspect the fans and heat sinks. Acquire new cooling hardware if necessary.

A fragmented hard drive

Hard drives manage data by breaking them into smaller pieces. As you add and delete files, spaces accumulate between these fragments.

What to do: Defrag your computer. Defragmenting compresses those scattered pieces together, arranging them to become more accessible. Schedule a time for regular defragging, at least once every two weeks.

Not enough RAM

Random Access Memory or RAM serves as temporary storage for activated programs, to allow easier data retrieval and quicker access. The more RAM your PC has, the more efficient it can be.

What to do: Add more RAM. Figure out how much you already have, how much you need, and what type works with your PC. If you’re not very tech-savvy, consult the manufacturer’s online support, or contact a computer technician.

In today’s world, we depend so much on our computers for information, work, interaction and entertainment, and it definitely pays to take good care of our devices. As a rule of thumb, contact a professional if you don’t know what to do.

I’ve mentioned 5 things that will slow your PC down. Any other things or reasons you could think of? Please tell us in the comments.

If you’re in the majority of Internet users out there, then you probably have a Facebook account by now. And if you’re in the majority of Facebook users, then you have probably linked your Facebook with the free music sharing program called Spotify.

What Is Spotify?

Spotify is an unlimited music streaming service that lets you listen to any song you can imagine at the click of a mouse. Spotify gives you instant access to millions of music tracks that you can play and share with friends by creating unique playlists. You can create an account for free or pay to upgrade to remove advertisements or use the service on your smartphone.

Today, Spotify is cornering the music market due to its popularity, making it a near replacement for iTunes and similar music services. Namely, you can listen to music for free on Spotify and don’t have to pay to download like you do with iTunes. If you want to travel and listen to music on your smartphone, you can pay a small fee for a Spotify subscription without having to pay to download each song individually.

Now that we’ve got that straightened out, it’s time to dig a little deeper. For those of you that are already devoted to Spotify, here are some helpful tips and tricks to use to make the most out of your music experience:

1. Modify your searches. Spotify offers modifiers to help you refine your search results. This means that you can search for a specific artist by year or in a range of years. You can also modify a search by album, artist, and genre. These modifiers can be combined to help you find music tracks from a specific album from a specific artist in a few seconds flat. You can also exclude an artist from your search with the same modifiers. For example: genre:pop NOT Madonna.

2. Drag your tracks. By now, you are probably familiar with the fact that you can right-click on a track, album, or playlist to copy the link to your clipboard. You can also drag a Spotify link into another program, like an instant messenger, e-mail window, or Twitter window.

3. Create playlists even faster. If you want to turn multiple tracks into a single playlist in less time, you can CTRL and click to select multiple tracks and then right-click to open a new menu and create a new playlist. This is much faster and more efficient than dragging each track individually into a new playlist.

4. Search for artists on a certain record label. By using the label search modification, you can filter through a number of artists that have signed with a certain record label. This is a very advanced search that is difficult to find almost anywhere else in such a simple environment. For example, search, label:“XXX” to find new artists on a preferred record label.

5. Make use of the chain-link icon. Any time that you search and find a chain-link icon listed next to a track, it indicates that the track isn’t available on the selected album. But it is available on another album in the Spotify search results. Take advantage!

There have been many questions about how importantly parents should take the security of their kids’ when they are on the internet. Many have debated that monitoring your kids and having to suggest to them what to do online is completely unrealistic, but we cannot disregard the fact that un-guarded use of the internet also contributes to the delinquency of children.

If you always take time to make sure you know each website your kids visited and every person they interacted with on the internet, then I must praise your efforts. If the world is full of parents who care about what their kids do online, the rate at which children are being endangered on the internet will drastically decline.

Let’s go ahead and discuss measures that parents can take to have peace of mind when their kids are on the internet.

Install Internet Monitoring Software

One good way parents can shield their children against the harm that has infested the internet is by having a good monitoring software on the computer they use to browse the internet. Good programs like Webwatcher, Verisign and Norton have earned their name the hard way, by creating good parenting software that are reputable and reliable.

Webwatcher has a discount on my blog, and here are some advantages you gain from it.

Have the websites your kids visit tracked and recorded for your assessment at the end of the day.

Blocks harmful and hateful websites, porn and malicious websites from loading on your kids’ computers.

Filter slangs and curse words by replacing them with #$%@ wherever they appear on a website, and many more.

How do you get such great and full-option software without having to spend all you have for it is what many parents might be concerned with? But the good news is that I have hand-picked coupon codes that can help you save your money while you still get what you want.

Prevent Kids from Being Alone at the Computer

When kids are alone at the computer with the internet installed on it, it’s easier for them to encounter threats than when they are being monitored. If you are not the type of parent that stays with their kids when they browse the internet, you can curb what they do and who they interact with online by creating a time table which they must strictly adhere to.

Your kids should know when they are allowed to be on the internet, and it should correspond to the time you’d be available to put them through. You might not have the time to spend monitoring your children when they browse the internet, but you can use the little time you have to educate your children about how to use the internet.

Block Certain Websites

Another way to protect your children from online threats is by blocking certain websites from loading on their computer. Many websites can lead children to interacting with strangers and predators online and even mislead them to sharing personal details with complete strangers.

Due to how long their children spend on certain websites coupled with the risks of them interacting with complete strangers on such websites, many parents are concerned about what activities their children perform on the internet. If you however happen to be a parent in this condition the best solution for you would be to block those websites from loading on your children’s computer.

Guest article written by: Steven has been blogging and doing research for webwatcher coupon code and verisign promo blog.

As you know that PDF is a portable document format, which requires a special viewer such as Adobe Reader for viewing it. This program is so popular that it can be installed freely on all computers nowadays. But, Adobe Reader doesn’t allow you to convert different file formats to a PDF. Adobe has come up with their new PDF suites that allow conversions, but its high price is the major drawback. Classic PDF editor exclusive conversion features at an affordable price of $24.95 allow excellent conversions that make it a distinctive PDF editor.

Easily convert Excel to a PDF document with the Classic PDF converter. XLS is the file extension for Microsoft Excel also called a Spreadsheet application offered by Microsoft Office suite. In order to view a Spreadsheet, you need to have Microsoft Excel Viewer installed on your PC to view the XLS file(s). In terms of XLS conversion to PDF doesn’t require Excel viewer to be installed. With Classic PDF editor you can convert five hundred plus file formats to the PDF from any Windows software applications that have a print option, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, TIFF, JPEG, etc, as easy as printing the file. Convert not only your Excel files to PDF but also five hundred plus other file formats to PDF as well. Now, convert your Excel files to the PDF files, or combine many different Excel files into a single PDF file with ease.

Why there is a need of XLS conversion to PDF?

XLS document is comparatively easy to edit (when it is not password protected) than the PDF document. But it requires conversion to PDF because of three main reasons that are stated below:

Secure exchange.

PDF files are smaller in size.

Quality of printing is better in PDF.

Firefox is a free and open source web browser from Mozilla that is fast easy and rewarding. The latest version, Firefox 8,0 comes with a host of improvements such as improved security, improved performance and improved handling of audio and video files.

This browser provides total support for its users regarding the user interface look. You can give your browser a unique look with thousands of add-ons to choose from on any platform such as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android.

The irritable add-ons by third party programs have been disabled while there is added support for HTML 5 menus. Improved CSS hyphen support and Web Socket supports are the other useful capabilities offered in this version of Firefox. This makes it easier for web developers to build compatible Firefox add-ons and applications.

The Firefox for Android has the new Do Not Track feature, which was already available on all the other operating systems. This privacy feature by Mozilla was developed to give users better control over the tracking of their browsing actions. This feature allows users to inform websites whether they want to opt out of the online behavior tracking. The Do Not Track feature is easily found in the Firefox Preferences drop down section.

Advanced and improved security is the highlight of the Firefox 8.0. Instant website ID, content security policy, customized security settings, and parental controls are some of the amazing security options provided by Mozilla in this version. It also has anti-virus integration with secure connections to your websites.

The private browsing feature allows you to go under cover and protect your browsing history. It is easy to slip in and out of the private browsing mode and is handy particularly when you are doing some online banking or sharing important data from a cyber café.

Firefox 8.0 has an improved interface, which makes browsing easy and efficient. Smooth scrolling and app tabs make browsing even more interesting and satisfying. The Sync feature seamlessly connects your desktop and mobile Firefox, which makes it facile to access your browsing history from anywhere. The integrated web search enables you to breeze through web search with hundreds of search engine options in the drop down list. The Sessions Restore feature is another great option in Firefox 8.0.

The cutting edge of the Firefox 8.o is the latest web technologies and enhanced functionalities that enable developers to create amazing Firefox add-ons for multiple platforms. It also supports WebM video formats so that you watch HD videos. The graphics engine has been upgraded to give faster and sharper text and graphics including SVG and Canvas.

Overall, the new version of Firefox 8.0 is definitely more assuring with all its new improved security updates and powerful personalization options. These welcome updates will only serve to increase their fan base, which is already next to none in terms of preference.

MobileMe was Apple’s paid version for having a @me.com e-mail address, folder online (iDisk), a gallery online, some synchronization between Mac apps etc. It came at a fee of around €79 a year (if I remember correctly). For some of us, it didn’t mean a lot to pay that fee, cause we got a service that just worked and was well integrated with Mac OS X and iOS devices, even though you could get each individual service for free elsewhere, such as Google Calendar for synchronizing your calendar between iCal and iPhone.

If you’re a paid MobileMe subscriber, Apple would have extended your subscription for free until June 2012, at which MobileMe will be shutting down and your Gallery, iDisk and iWeb will be gone – so be sure to have your data backed up before then.

iDisk and Gallery are probably the most-used features of MobileMe that most people will be missing. I enjoyed how easy it was to share an album from Aperture or iPhoto via MobileMe Gallery.

What alternative do we have to MobileMe Gallery and iDisk?

So far, the best and easiest (and cheapest – free!) alternative I’ve found, is Dropbox.

UPDATE – April 2012: Dropbox has increased the “extra” storage space from previous 250MB to 500MB, so if you sign-up using any of the links provided below, you will get an extra 500MB space for free!

A free Dropbox account will give you 2GB of storage and offers <del>250MB</del> 500MB extra if you complete 5 out of 7 “getting started” quests they offer – which are really easy, it’s just installing the app, uploading a file, sharing a folder etc. Stuff like that. On top of that, you also get another 250MB free if you signup for a free Dropbox account by clicking here. So by now, you should be able to have over 2,5GB free storage in the cloud for files (iDisk alternative) and photos (Gallery alternative).

If you want more space than that, you can ask your friends to signup as well – each of you get an extra <del>250MB</del> 500MB. You can earn up to <del>8GB</del> 16GB in “referral space”, giving you a total of <del>10GB</del> 18GB free storage at Dropbox. If that’s not enough, you can pay to upgrade to either 50GB or 100GB, which should be plenty for most people.

What’s good about Dropbox is how easy it is to use. Just download the app and run it – this will create a “Dropbox” folder in your Mac’s home folder (or where you place it). Everything in that folder is automatically synced to Dropbox – and you can pull the files from your iPhone also. Dropbox offers a free app for both iPhone and Android.

Your local Dropbox folder contains both a Public folder, for sharing files with the public, and a Photos folder, in which you can create albums and share them with friends/family etc.

MobileMe Galleries were quite simple. You couldn’t have people commenting etc., it was just a basic gallery – but it was fast and easy to use. Dropbox galleries are pretty much the same, except you don’t have the same tight integration with, say, Aperture 3. Sharing photos on Dropbox, I’d just go into Aperture 3 and export the photos to a subfolder within my “Photos” folder in “Dropbox”, and that’s it – automatically synced to Dropbox. Then you can send the link afterwards to whoever you want to show off your album to.

If you want more gallery features, you probably need to start learning how to use the Flickr integration in Aperture 3, or perhaps go with Facebook, if you need an even bigger community-part of photo albums. But my guess is, if you’re looking for a MobileMe Gallery alternative, the Dropbox Photos is going to be helpful to you – at least until something else comes along, offering tighter Aperture 3 integration.

One more thing…

Besides using Dropbox as an iDisk alternative or MobileMe Gallery alternative, you can also use it as a backup – it even has versions and is able to restore deleted files. Actually, I’ve also read of someone syncing their entire Mac home user folder to Dropbox – as a way of always having an up-to-date backup and being able to restore your files from everywhere.
Related Articles:

This might be the reason why they have called it the Re-Creation of Windows. There are many users who have avoided Windows upgrades in the past. There are still many people who are using Windows 2000, for example. The new Windows 8 download, we are going to see many radical changes. You will not be able to stay in the past because of those radical changes that are happening to the way we use personal computers in the future. Many people think it is about cloud computing, when in reality it is not. We are already using cloud computing in many ways without realising this is the case. Here is a look at why you will need to upgrade and cannot stay in the past.

Tablets. Tablets are very practical and fast turning into the personal computer of choice for many people. They are lightweight and they are easy to carry about. The new Windows 8 upgrade was actually released as an operating system for tablets, meaning it works perfectly on tablets. Unlike Apple’s iOS, the operating system for iPads, the Windows 8 download will also work on your desktop and laptop computers. In the case of Apple, you have one operating system for your iPhone and iPad (iOS), and another operating system for laptops and desktops. Windows 8 will work on all devices, including your smartphone.

Multi Device. Multi device computing has never really been available. We have not been using our smartphones to do more than read our emails and rarely use them in conjunction with out personal laptops. We don’t make a presentation on our desktop and then demonstrate it on a tablet. We have been using all these devices independently. That does not make sense at all, and the Windows 8 download is about to change all that.

HTML5. HTML5 is the language that browsers understand. This means that we use application online without even realizing they are applications. For example, Facebook is an online application. In this case, we are using our smartphone, tablet, and laptop at home, as a single device. Our Facebook updates, when we switch devices, and it is where we left off on our laptop when we get home and were using our smartphone on the way home from work. Understand that, and you understand the importance of HTML5, and the new Windows 8 operating system.

Windows 8, or the Re-Creation of Windows will allow HTML5 applications run directly on our operating system. This means a single HTML5 application will run on all of your devices. You will not have to open your browser on your smartphone, or tablet, to use Facebook, or to use it on your laptop. Now we see Facebook applications for our iPhone and our iPad, but we use our browser on our laptop. With Windows 8, it will be the same application on all devices, based on HTML5. This example of Facebook is an excellent way to demonstrate how Windows 8 is a radical change to computing. Read more about this on the Windows 8 forums.
