As you know that PDF is a portable document format, which requires a special viewer such as Adobe Reader for viewing it. This program is so popular that it can be installed freely on all computers nowadays. But, Adobe Reader doesn’t allow you to convert different file formats to a PDF. Adobe has come up with their new PDF suites that allow conversions, but its high price is the major drawback. Classic PDF editor exclusive conversion features at an affordable price of $24.95 allow excellent conversions that make it a distinctive PDF editor.

Easily convert Excel to a PDF document with the Classic PDF converter. XLS is the file extension for Microsoft Excel also called a Spreadsheet application offered by Microsoft Office suite. In order to view a Spreadsheet, you need to have Microsoft Excel Viewer installed on your PC to view the XLS file(s). In terms of XLS conversion to PDF doesn’t require Excel viewer to be installed. With Classic PDF editor you can convert five hundred plus file formats to the PDF from any Windows software applications that have a print option, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, TIFF, JPEG, etc, as easy as printing the file. Convert not only your Excel files to PDF but also five hundred plus other file formats to PDF as well. Now, convert your Excel files to the PDF files, or combine many different Excel files into a single PDF file with ease.

Why there is a need of XLS conversion to PDF?

XLS document is comparatively easy to edit (when it is not password protected) than the PDF document. But it requires conversion to PDF because of three main reasons that are stated below:

Secure exchange.

PDF files are smaller in size.

Quality of printing is better in PDF.

Firefox is a free and open source web browser from Mozilla that is fast easy and rewarding. The latest version, Firefox 8,0 comes with a host of improvements such as improved security, improved performance and improved handling of audio and video files.

This browser provides total support for its users regarding the user interface look. You can give your browser a unique look with thousands of add-ons to choose from on any platform such as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android.

The irritable add-ons by third party programs have been disabled while there is added support for HTML 5 menus. Improved CSS hyphen support and Web Socket supports are the other useful capabilities offered in this version of Firefox. This makes it easier for web developers to build compatible Firefox add-ons and applications.

The Firefox for Android has the new Do Not Track feature, which was already available on all the other operating systems. This privacy feature by Mozilla was developed to give users better control over the tracking of their browsing actions. This feature allows users to inform websites whether they want to opt out of the online behavior tracking. The Do Not Track feature is easily found in the Firefox Preferences drop down section.

Advanced and improved security is the highlight of the Firefox 8.0. Instant website ID, content security policy, customized security settings, and parental controls are some of the amazing security options provided by Mozilla in this version. It also has anti-virus integration with secure connections to your websites.

The private browsing feature allows you to go under cover and protect your browsing history. It is easy to slip in and out of the private browsing mode and is handy particularly when you are doing some online banking or sharing important data from a cyber café.

Firefox 8.0 has an improved interface, which makes browsing easy and efficient. Smooth scrolling and app tabs make browsing even more interesting and satisfying. The Sync feature seamlessly connects your desktop and mobile Firefox, which makes it facile to access your browsing history from anywhere. The integrated web search enables you to breeze through web search with hundreds of search engine options in the drop down list. The Sessions Restore feature is another great option in Firefox 8.0.

The cutting edge of the Firefox 8.o is the latest web technologies and enhanced functionalities that enable developers to create amazing Firefox add-ons for multiple platforms. It also supports WebM video formats so that you watch HD videos. The graphics engine has been upgraded to give faster and sharper text and graphics including SVG and Canvas.

Overall, the new version of Firefox 8.0 is definitely more assuring with all its new improved security updates and powerful personalization options. These welcome updates will only serve to increase their fan base, which is already next to none in terms of preference.

MobileMe was Apple’s paid version for having a @me.com e-mail address, folder online (iDisk), a gallery online, some synchronization between Mac apps etc. It came at a fee of around €79 a year (if I remember correctly). For some of us, it didn’t mean a lot to pay that fee, cause we got a service that just worked and was well integrated with Mac OS X and iOS devices, even though you could get each individual service for free elsewhere, such as Google Calendar for synchronizing your calendar between iCal and iPhone.

If you’re a paid MobileMe subscriber, Apple would have extended your subscription for free until June 2012, at which MobileMe will be shutting down and your Gallery, iDisk and iWeb will be gone – so be sure to have your data backed up before then.

iDisk and Gallery are probably the most-used features of MobileMe that most people will be missing. I enjoyed how easy it was to share an album from Aperture or iPhoto via MobileMe Gallery.

What alternative do we have to MobileMe Gallery and iDisk?

So far, the best and easiest (and cheapest – free!) alternative I’ve found, is Dropbox.

A free Dropbox account will give you 2GB of storage and offers 250MB extra if you complete 5 out of 7 “getting started” quests they offer – which are really easy, it’s just installing the app, uploading a file, sharing a folder etc. Stuff like that. On top of that, you also get another 250MB free if you signup for a free Dropbox account by clicking here. So by now, you should be able to have 2,5GB free storage in the cloud for files (iDisk alternative) and photos (Gallery alternative).

If you want more space than that, you can ask your friends to signup as well – each of you get an extra 250MB. You can earn up to 8GB in “referral space”, giving you a total of 10GB free storage at Dropbox. If that’s not enough, you can pay to upgrade to either 50GB or 100GB, which should be plenty for most people.

What’s good about Dropbox is how easy it is to use. Just download the app and run it – this will create a “Dropbox” folder in your Mac’s home folder (or where you place it). Everything in that folder is automatically synced to Dropbox – and you can pull the files from your iPhone also. Dropbox offers a free app for both iPhone and Android.

Your local Dropbox folder contains both a Public folder, for sharing files with the public, and a Photos folder, in which you can create albums and share them with friends/family etc.

MobileMe Galleries were quite simple. You couldn’t have people commenting etc., it was just a basic gallery – but it was fast and easy to use. Dropbox galleries are pretty much the same, except you don’t have the same tight integration with, say, Aperture 3. Sharing photos on Dropbox, I’d just go into Aperture 3 and export the photos to a subfolder within my “Photos” folder in “Dropbox”, and that’s it – automatically synced to Dropbox. Then you can send the link afterwards to whoever you want to show off your album to.

If you want more gallery features, you probably need to start learning how to use the Flickr integration in Aperture 3, or perhaps go with Facebook, if you need an even bigger community-part of photo albums. But my guess is, if you’re looking for a MobileMe Gallery alternative, the Dropbox Photos is going to be helpful to you – at least until something else comes along, offering tighter Aperture 3 integration.

One more thing…

Besides using Dropbox as an iDisk alternative or MobileMe Gallery alternative, you can also use it as a backup – it even has versions and is able to restore deleted files. Actually, I’ve also read of someone syncing their entire Mac home user folder to Dropbox – as a way of always having an up-to-date backup and being able to restore your files from everywhere.
Related Articles:

This might be the reason why they have called it the Re-Creation of Windows. There are many users who have avoided Windows upgrades in the past. There are still many people who are using Windows 2000, for example. The new Windows 8 download, we are going to see many radical changes. You will not be able to stay in the past because of those radical changes that are happening to the way we use personal computers in the future. Many people think it is about cloud computing, when in reality it is not. We are already using cloud computing in many ways without realising this is the case. Here is a look at why you will need to upgrade and cannot stay in the past.

Tablets. Tablets are very practical and fast turning into the personal computer of choice for many people. They are lightweight and they are easy to carry about. The new Windows 8 upgrade was actually released as an operating system for tablets, meaning it works perfectly on tablets. Unlike Apple’s iOS, the operating system for iPads, the Windows 8 download will also work on your desktop and laptop computers. In the case of Apple, you have one operating system for your iPhone and iPad (iOS), and another operating system for laptops and desktops. Windows 8 will work on all devices, including your smartphone.

Multi Device. Multi device computing has never really been available. We have not been using our smartphones to do more than read our emails and rarely use them in conjunction with out personal laptops. We don’t make a presentation on our desktop and then demonstrate it on a tablet. We have been using all these devices independently. That does not make sense at all, and the Windows 8 download is about to change all that.

HTML5. HTML5 is the language that browsers understand. This means that we use application online without even realizing they are applications. For example, Facebook is an online application. In this case, we are using our smartphone, tablet, and laptop at home, as a single device. Our Facebook updates, when we switch devices, and it is where we left off on our laptop when we get home and were using our smartphone on the way home from work. Understand that, and you understand the importance of HTML5, and the new Windows 8 operating system.

Windows 8, or the Re-Creation of Windows will allow HTML5 applications run directly on our operating system. This means a single HTML5 application will run on all of your devices. You will not have to open your browser on your smartphone, or tablet, to use Facebook, or to use it on your laptop. Now we see Facebook applications for our iPhone and our iPad, but we use our browser on our laptop. With Windows 8, it will be the same application on all devices, based on HTML5. This example of Facebook is an excellent way to demonstrate how Windows 8 is a radical change to computing. Read more about this on the Windows 8 forums.

We were introduced to personal computing by Windows many years ago. The idea was that we would use our computer and application, and we would save our information on our computers. The internet meant we could now send information to each other.

This has all changed in many ways, and the new operating system is going to take that trend to the next level. Here is a look at why cloud computing is actually safer, and how the Windows 8 install is going to help that.

Mobile Computing. The new Windows 8 upgrade was actually released only a few days ago. It was released as an operating system for tablets. Mobile computing is popular because the devices are light and we can use them anywhere. No one can afford to be stuck behind his or her desk anymore, and even desktops are rarely used by the normal personal computing user.

Multi Device. Tablets were the first real step towards mobile computing, and we started to use a tablet with our other devices. We would make a presentation on our laptop in the office, and we would demonstrate it with out tablet to clients. We used several devices, and we used them together. There are still many people who have smartphones and they don’t really use them together with their laptops. The new Windows 8 operating system is the same operating system for all devices This means all applications and all files will be the same on all devices.

Applications. HTML5 is the language of the internet. It is the computing language that your browser uses when you access your internet banking, for example. You feel safe doing that right? If all of your applications come from an application store, like they will do with Windows 8, just check out the Windows 8 forums discussions, and you will see the benefits, you will see that these applications have gone through screening processes. Many new applications will be based on HTML5, and they will work directly on your Windows 8 operating system. This means those applications will work on all devices, they have been screened, and they will work like internet applications without using a browser.

Viruses and Malware. Viruses and malware are what cause the dangers of our online computing experience. By eliminating them from our applications, and allowing us to use screened applications from an application store, we are already safer.

File Free. Our devices will not need to store our files, because we will keep them stored online. We will want to access those files from any device we are using at the time. This is what Windows 8 is all about. This means if you lose a laptop, smartphone or tablet, you do not lose your files. Your information is safe.

Cloud computing is much safer than what we have been used to. Actually we are already using it. Now with the new Windows 8 operating system, all our applications will be screened and we will not need to store on our own devices. Cloud computing is the safest way forward, and Windows 8 is about to help us in a very big way.

Internet has revolutionized the world and so our life style. We cannot deny its countless blessings, which has made our life easy and convenient with floods of information and services at just one click. But with the expansion and progress in this area, our computers are more expose to the evil of viruses, which are being propagated in numerous numbers every hour through the means of internet. These viruses are extremely injurious to the health of our computers. To fight back with viruses, programmers have come up with different antivirus programs and software to provide the shield against the menace of viruses and other manifold risks and threats.

It has become compulsory, for the safeguard of our computer, to buy good antivirus software, to provide it optimum defense. But which is the best antivirus program in the market for my computer, is the key and the perplexed subject for everyone. IT is the most fast growing industry and so are the mounting rate of malwares and destructive items in this sector. So, while choosing an antivirus program, your main focus should be on trimming down the maximum risk.

While choosing the best antivirus software for your PC, you should take into consideration some key aspects. There are numerous antivirus software companies in the market; BitDefender is one of the leading antivirus software companies, which provides an efficient and effective range of products.

Malware Recognition method

Detection process is the major aspect in evaluating different antivirus software. Bitdefender total security suite provides both the heuristic method and signature based detecting technique to combat different viruses, spyware, Trojans, bots and worms. Through the signature method, software scans the particular file or pattern which appear unsafe. While in the heuristic method, software observes the behavior of the file instead of particular code. Presence of both the technique makes Bitdefender total security a robust system.

Real-time Scanning

It is important to have software that successfully kills the effects of malware by real-time scanning, and this feature is available in Bitdefender total security. In this process, the software senses and removes the threatening files and simultaneously keeps away the danger of other viruses and Trojans.

Protective Layer of Firewall

With the excessive use of the internet, the possibility of transmitting viruses, worms and other threats from other networks has reached its peak. In order to monitor the traffic flow within the networks, the firewall acts as a protective shield for your PC. Bitdefender total security has a very progressive dual traffic controlling firewall, which provides the maximum protection against threats. You can easily pre-determine the known applications through firewall options for quick sorting of destructive items. Its special Wi-Fi mode disallows the access of your personal information through the Wi-Fi channel.

Easy Guide option

If you are looking for competent security software, then it should have the feature of help and support. These software programs are usually easy to run, but sometimes you need technical assistance for smooth operations. In case of problematic situations, software companies provide application of help guideline, which facilitates you in understanding and resolving the issues through content, tutorials and troubleshooting files. Bitdefender total security provides this facility and in addition to this, one can seek help through their phone, email or online conversation service.

Complementary Features

Additional features in security software programs are always attractive in luring more customers. Bitdefender total security includes the option of parental monitoring and time control. This feature gives a chance to parents to not only protect PCs but also have a check on their children. It can filter the internet search without showing the inappropriate content to the children. Apart from that, the gamer and laptop mode is also integrated in the total security suite. Anti-spam and anti-phishing protection services can entice customers too for opting for this security package. It avoids the spam emails and illegal acquisition of one’s personal information respectively.

Simple and Easy Procedures

Software with user-friendly operations is appealing for any customer to buy. Bitdefender total security has the quality to provide the desired level of interaction with well-organized layout and simple directional keys. A good security program should be easily compatible with your system, and this attribute is also present in Bitdefender total security.

So now it is quite clear that to choose a good antivirus software program, you need to focus on some important factors other than price range. Bitdefender total security has almost all the elements which are needed in any good security software.

The new operating system will allow us to have the same operating system on our tablet, laptop and smartphone. This will be the first time we have had this as a reality. The closest thing to this has been Apple’s iPhone (iOS) and the operating system on Apple Macs (OS X). At the same time, Apple has not provided an operating system that is the same on both types of device. According to rumours, there are some significant improvements for Windows 8 and smartphones. Here is a look at those rumours.

1: Language

Windows 8 phones will have support for 22 languages, each with their own input method. Handwriting support is also supposedly included. This is extremely important for Asian users. Keyboard sizes can be adjusted and are easy to use.

2: Connectivity

Connecting to the internet and through WAN networks with personal settings are set to be easier to arrange and organise. Setting a proxy server is becoming more important as users travel around the globe and still need access to their own country’s services and media content. Personalisation of these settings is rumoured to be much easier.

3: Lunar

The lunar calendar is very important to a number of cultures and societies, particularly in Asia. Lunar calendar support will be popular with Asian customers, and it seen as crucial for any device to be considered by the Asian market.

4: Facebook

Facebook is becoming increasingly important. Many internet and data connection providers are even offering unlimited free access for Facebook on their connections to get more customers. The new operating system apparently integrates Facebook in a deeper and more intrinsic level on the phone’s operating system. Facebook functions such as chat, like and other common tools will be built into many elements of the operating system.

5: Xbox Live

Microsoft acquired Xbox and developed Live some time ago. This has still been a part of the world of gaming, rather than something that has been regularly used by normal smartphone users. Rumours are circulating that much more of the Xbox services will be available on the smartphone, and other phone features will be available, such as messaging and text messaging, through the Xbox. It makes sense to integrate these services and products, as many younger users, who were at the core of the Xbox consumer base are growing older and using smartphones.

The Windows 8 upgrade for Windows phones promises a lot. Let’s hope we get the operating system as soon as possible and the upgrade and updates are as good, if not better, than the rumours and what we have seen in demonstrations.
Related Articles:

There are mixed reviews, reports, comments, discussions and opinions flying around. Whatever anyone has to say, it probably won’t even matter. The Chromebook will work, and it will get its piece of the market once a few real user reviews start to come out. It won’t be all consuming and powerful like the release of Windows 8 activation through download, but let’s have a sensible look at what Google is doing.

1: Could even be a demo

Google is big enough, makes enough cash, and has the strength to do something like this, even if their end goal is not for it to be stand-alone success. It is a working demonstration of what total cloud computing is, a huge demonstration of Google’s ability to create a full working online platform can do, is supported with loads of apps they have been developing for a long time, and here it is. As they tell you from the start, it will constantly improve (as there is actually nothing on it, and it is all about them improving what is available on the web).

There could be a number of reasons why they are putting this device out there now, and one of them does not have to be an attempt at trying to take over the PC and OS market.

2: We all live in the browser

When you stop and think about it, most of us are spending 90% of our time in a browser doing something when we work anyway. If you have a Google account and Gmail, you are probably aware of the fact you don’t need to use software such as Microsoft Office, for quite some time.

Once you start using Google Docs, you really don’t like the idea of having a document that is a file on your own computer and to share that with anyone you need to send the file as an attachment. If you don’t know what Google Docs is, it is time for you to get a Gmail account and find out what it is.

3: Google Account Users

Google Account users will have an immediate understanding of what the Chromebook is. There is not much explaining needed for them. That is still a large proportion of the world’s internet users. They will not have any mental adjustment to make to use one. Other users might feel strange at the beginning. Younger people tend to move onto the next thing fast.

4: Security

The Chromebook has a totally new approach to online security. Sandboxing is a new strategy, and this demonstration will be crucial for Google. Security is the number one issue for everyone when they are on the web, and it is the number one fear on a macro-social perspective in relation to the introduction of cloud computing. Google is seriously vying for their piece of the cloud pie, and a very big and important pie that is going to be.

5: Market share through device

While other companies such as Amazon and Apple are approaching the cloud computing market through a service, the Chromebook is obviously Google’s tool for penetration. It seems a pretty simple, and yet intelligent strategy. Based on what we have seen from Google since it was born, this is not very surprising. Supply users with a device, and using that means they will automatically be using Google’s cloud services – from the point they turn it on.

Windows 8, the next huge thing in the world of computers is still some time off. Google didn’t wait around to get a jump on the market. You might even get a Chromebook just to use when you are on the road, to give the kids, to use in the lounge room. Google will be offering Chromebooks to schools and businesses on a subscription basis at US$20 a month per unit for students, and US$28 for businesses, over three years, including all software and hardware updates. That is very comparable to buying a new machine every year and all that software you need to with any other option. Have a think about what they are doing… very smart move Google.
Related Articles:

But which one of them is the most efficient in blocking ads on our favorite websites like Facebook and Youtube?

The Google Chrome browser is becoming increasingly popular and gaining about 1% market share every month, most of the users are switching over from Internet Explorer. Besides being faster and more secure, Google Chrome is surpassing the Microsoft browser by offering many free extensions from external developers. Two of the most popular extensions are “AdBlock” and “Adblock Plus” – but what is the difference between the two and which one is better?

Despite the similarity in the name, the two extensions are created by different developers. Chrome Adblock Plus is based on the addon that was originally created for Firefox, with more than 120 million downloads the most popular browser addon in the world. A few months ago, Adblock Plus was ported to Google Chrome and in no time it has become the third most popular extension for Google Chrome. Adblock Plus is developed under open-source license by an international community of voluntary helpers as a non-profit project. “AdBlock” was inspired by this Adblock Plus movement and originally created for Chrome and Safari by an independent developer who is generating revenues with the software by asking for donations.

In order to analyze which one of the two operates more efficiently, the following criteria were used as a basis for the comparison:

Blocking capability: How many ads are still coming through with an adblocker enabled?

User interface: Which adblocker offers the best customization features?

Performance: Is there any impact on the surfing speed?

Blocking capability

Both Chrome extensions are working very similar: Once installed, all ads are gone automatically. The ads are even blocked before downloading, which makes browsing the internet not only cleaner but also a lot faster by saving bandwidth. The items that are blocked are defined by filter lists such as the “EasyList” that originally were created for Firefox Adblock Plus. That’s why both adblockers are blocking the same elements. They do both have one wekness: blocking video ads. While the Firefox version is very efficient in this aspect, both adblockers for Chrome are not 100% reliable on this due to a bug in the WebKit engine Google Chrome is based on. So regarding the first aspect of our criteria, both adblockers work very similar, although Adblock Plus is slightly more advanced when it comes to blocking ads on youtube.com.

User interface

The original Adblock Plus has a rather minimalistic user interface, that’s why it is still in “beta” until it offers the same functionalities as the Firefox version. AdBlock has a more sophisticated user interface and is offering advanced options such as displaying all items that are blocked on a website.

Speed

This is a very important aspect as speed is what makes browsing the web enjoyable. AdBlock has always had an inferior code-basis, causing the browser to crash and slowing Chrome down significantly when a user is opening a new tab. Since the latest update to version 2.4, there has been a major improvement. However, Adblock Plus (which is based on the code that is being used for the Firefox version) is significantly faster (about 30% on the machine used for testing) and has not once caused the browser to crash.

So which one is better?

In conclusion, both ad-blocking plugins block ads reliably, only on video sites they are both inferior to the Firefox version to limitations in Google Chrome. AdBlock for Chrome is older and still has more users. The more sophisticated adblocker, however, is Adblock Plus for Google Chrome due to a significant better performance that is making browsing the web faster instead of slowing it down.

Nobody notices when you do it right, but everyone hates you if you do it wrong.

Few people understand the skill and experience required to keep critical business data protected. Too often, people just assume that it’s just a matter of copying files to a tape and sending it away. But you know better than that.

For example, there are a number of critical business requirements which must be accounted for as part of every backup plan. Probably the most important of these has to do with the long-term retention and protection of business data.

Since it would be impractical and far too expensive to simply create a new backup every day, most IT admins only keep a small number of backups on file. Usually, 7 or 30 days worth. After making 30 daily backups on 30 different backup tapes, the oldest one will then be wiped out and recycled as the most recent backup. From here, the cycle continues forever.

This system is usually called “first-in-first-out” (FIFO), because the first tape used is also the first tape to be erased.

But what happens if you need to store data for a long time? Like maybe 7 years worth? That would require the purchase, storage and maintenance of over 2500 storage devices. Definitely not practical!

So what’s another alternative? Well, since we know that data usually becomes less critical over time, we can strategically assign more frequent backups to the most critical data, while backing up less critical data less frequently.

This isn’t a perfect approach, but it’s one that balances risk and practicality well enough for most organization.

In order to achieve this kind of a result, many companies will employ the Grandfather-Father-Son paradigm. With GFS, you usually have 3 generations of FIFO backup cycles.

One cycle will run on a daily basis for 7 days. (Son)

One cycle will run every week for 5 weeks or a month. (Father)

A final cycle will run on a monthly basis, and usually archive this data permanently. (Grandfather)

When it comes to long-term backup retention, the Grandfather-Father-Son methodology is currently the most popular method. However, it’s popularity has been dropping in recent years due to a number of drawbacks:

It consumes storage inefficiently.

It’s only practical for scheduled backups, and doesn’t permit continuous backup.

It requires loosening of adherence to retention policies. This can cause problems in a lawsuit.

The recovery process can be complicated.

Recovery speeds can be slow with this methodology, depending on the method used for capturing incremental changes.

This method often requires long backup windows.

GFS backups require lots of manual handling.

When recovering older data, this method offers poor granularity.

There is another, more effective methodology that’s growing in popularity. It’s called the “Progressive Paradigm”. With the Progressive Paradigm, you can efficiently store daily backups for a long time while maintaining shorter backup windows, more efficient storage use, better security and faster recovery speeds. And best of all, it’s fully automated!

We can talk more about the Progressive Paradigm in another article. But for now, the GFS rotation should be a very simple way for you to efficiently maintain long-term backups without making any major changes to your current data protection process.
