The site 9to5 Mac has reported that they have a source from inside the Apple campus and they have spoon feed them the features of the new phone and it sounds very interesting. Firstly as has been stated already by many different rumour sites they new phone will have a smaller dock connector.

The source also stated that their are two prototypes of the Apple device in the wild these are codenamed the iPhone 5.1 and the iPhone 5.2. They tell on that the two models both had the same long and thinner form factor than the current iPhone, not much longer however the phone is meant to be considerably thinner. Along with this the new phone is meant to have a 3.9 inch screen, the source said that this was in both models and has a higher resolution that the current iPhone at 640 x 1136 pixels. This makes the screen have an aspect ratio of 16:9 which you film buffs out there will know is the same aspect ratio as they use for wide screen films, which will mean that if this is true the iPhone will naturally be able to play wide screen films. On the previous iPhone because of the 3.5-inch screen the wide screen aspect ratio always looked very squashed and didn’t tend to play well.

The new iPhone 5 (left), maybe, vs the iPhone 4/4S on the right

This was all they let on from their source inside Apple, however that doesn’t mean there isn’t more to come. At the end of the article they wrote that exact thing. Stating that:

“We have a lot more coming this week, including processor specs, maps and other goodies…”

I don’t know about you but I am eagerly awaiting news on Apple’s newest phone.

It now appears that those particular expectations were a little muted, especially when it comes to the actual value the company would carry once their IPO was sold off. Filing papers on May 3rd, Facebook took another step towards going public and the numbers now show that the company could be valued anywhere from $77 to $96 billion when the smoke clears.

The company has officially stated that it will sell 335 million shares and that the stock will be priced at $28-$35 a share. If those numbers are accurate, it would mean that Facebook’s IPO would be the biggest an internet company has seen since Google went public back in 2004. The company will now begin to the dusty trail on what is usually referred to as a “roadshow” where higher-ups will meet with various high-powered executives who are considering buying up large amounts of stock. The executives will have a series of question and answer sessions with Mark Zuckerberg and the top-of-the-ladder members of Facebook’s management team. While the process is named an Initial Public Offering, these sessions are very far from being open to the public. Invitations are the only way to get in the door, and having millions of dollars is the only way to get an invitation.

Reuters is reporting that the tour will begin shortly, though the company is supposed to keep quiet about it until the SEC signs off. That means that at the moment, the social media giant cannot say who will be going out on this roadshow, but it would seem to be major mistake to not include Zuckerberg. While the genius creator of this mega social site is rumored to have a prickly personality that could turn people off in a one-on-one situation, the heavy investors are going to want to meet the man responsible for all of this. Many industry insiders often cast these roadshows as little more than celebrity meet and greets. In the case of Facebook, which was a completely unique idea when it was launched, people with deep pockets are going to want to see the man behind it.

Facebook is the undisputed king of social media sites, still outpacing Twitter and Google+ by a wide margin, the questions that appear to be the most important to the stock market insiders is whether or not Facebook is really worth the money it stands to make. There are plenty of people on Wall Street who remember the last tech bubble bursting. Zuckerberg and the rest of his Facebook managers should expect to get grilled as to why the shares should open with such a high price tag. Of course, Facebook can counter with the ridiculous numbers of subscribers (somewhere around 800 million Worldwide) and then point to the fact that they are gaining more every day. Businesses have already seen the value of using Facebook to reel in their own profits; it seems likely that in the end, the social media site won’t have any problems convincing investors of its worth.

Without Steve Jobs, Apple will not be able to continue to produce “magical” products. At least that’s what George Colony from Forrester (analytics company) writes on his blog.

Even though Apple continues to beat their own records every time they release new financial statements, George Colony thinks that Apple will eventually end up like Sony – a giant that makes mediocre products, and may not even able to produce a profit each quarter.

He describes Apple as a company that was driven by Steve Jobs and his visions, charisma and willingness to take a risk. Without him, Apple will coast and then decelerate.

So when will it begin to go south?

In two to four years, he believes. Tim Cook might be a good man to keep the engines running, but he lacks charisma and visions to steer Apple in a forward direction – says George.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in 2-4 years. Until then, I’m sooo enjoying my Mac, iPhone and iPad – every day
Related Articles:

Nokia developed its version of the nano-SIM in collaboration with two other companies – Motorola and Research in Motion, and these three companies have united to take on Apple, which has separately produced its own variant on the smaller SIM card. The fight between the companies over the right to claim their version as the definitive nano-SIM will now be taken to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, which will have the job of determining which version of the card hits the marketplace.

With so much at stake, the companies involved in the dispute are saying little prior to the decision by ETSI, which is expected to be made at the end of the month. Originally a decision on which of the nano-SIM card prototypes would be given patent approval was expected towards the end of last year: however he did not elaborate on the reasons for the delay. Thus far, Motorola has acknowledged that it is collaborating with Nokia and RIM, but these two companies and Apple have declined to make any public comment.

There is a considerable amount at stake for both Nokia and Apple, as they continue to battle for the position of leading worldwide smartphone company – a position which Apple claimed from Nokia last year, and Nokia would likely consider victory in this battle to be the beginning of the process of putting Nokia phones back on top. The new nano-SIM card is set to be 30 percent smaller than micro-SIMS and 60 percent smaller than traditional ones. It is also around 15 percent thinner.

You can find out more information about any of these firms, and their products by visiting Dialaphone.co.uk.

How’s that? Well, first he gets his salary which is 900,000 dollars, then a bonus for 900,000 dollars – that was his 2011 salary. On top of that, he has shares worth 376.2 million dollars. This package is for the next 10 years, so he’s guaranteed a good amount of money, even if the shares didn’t count for anything (but they do, oh boy they do, AAPL is over $600 now!!)

If you were working on the Foxconn factory in China, it would take you 60,919 years to make as much money as Tim Cook, according to math done by New York Time.

By the way, this also makes Tim Cook the most well paid CEO in USA. In 2nd place is Larry Ellison who, last year, cashed in 77.6 million dollars. Here’s the entire top 50 list.
Related Articles:

If you want to read the full text of the bill, you can do that here, or scroll to the bottom of this page for the official summary.

CISPA was unveiled late 2011 by Rep. C.A. Ruppersberger (D-MD) And Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) and is descriped as a cybersecurity bill that defines “cyber threat intelligence” as any information related to the vulnerabilities of, or threats to, networks or systems owned and operated by US government or US companies. CISPA will remove any liability from private companies who collect and share information with the government, or with each other, related to sharing of “cyber threat intelligence”.

CISPA currently has a lot more support in the House than SOPA ever had, it has 106 co-sponsors and it also has support from major companies such as Facebook, AT&T, IBM and Intel.

The bill itself is probably not that bad, the problem is its “broad language” which opens up for a very loose interpretation of the bill, in ways that very likely could infringe on civil liberties.

Here’s how Center for Democracy & Technology sums it up:

The bill has a very broad, almost unlimited definition of the information that can be shared with government agencies notwithstanding privacy and other laws;

The bill is likely to lead to expansion of the government’s role in the monitoring of private communications as a result of this sharing;

It is likely to shift control of government cybersecurity efforts from civilian agencies to the military;

Once the information is shared with the government, it wouldn’t have to be used for cybersecurity, but could instead be used for any purpose that is not specifically prohibited.

There are almost no restrictions on what data can be collected and how it can be used. For example, Google could intercept your e-mails and send copies to other companies and/or the government, or they could modify your e-mail to avoid it reaching its destination, if it fits into their plan to “stop cybersecurity threats”.

Buckle up, because it’s only a matter of short time before the Internet will start boiling again, like with SOPA/PIPA, as CISPA gets more and more news coverage and people once again understand that their civil rights are about to be challenged. Some day I’m sure a similar bill will pass, but hopefully it will be one that is properly defined, and not CISPA.
Related Articles:

Confused by the title? Nokia has patented a new Tattoo design that will alert for calls, messages or e-mails. The phrase ‘Technology gets under your skin’ has taken over literally.

The goal is to eliminate the odds of missing a call or text message. An impulse is perceived through the tattoo whenever someone is trying to contact through the phone.

How does it work?

The tattoo acts as a receiver. Whenever an incoming signal is received, magnetic wave is transmitted to the tattoo. Upon receiving the signal, the tattoo sets of a perceivable vibration which can be felt by the skin. Simple and effective is the explanation.

However, the real turn of technology comes in the customization. Calls and messages can be customized just as we have different ringtones for various contacts. The tactile response through the tattoo can be customized for various contacts.

After the patent was filed a report from Unwired said it’s possible. The magnetic waves generated from the mobile phone can be used to synchronize the tattoo. Principle is the same as synchronizing the mobile and Bluetooth.

How is the tattoo magnetized?

The tattoo makes use of ferromagnetic ink. The ink contains compound like iron/iron oxide. Before the tattoo can be designed over your skin it has to be demagnetized. The process is carried over by heating to several temperatures high. At this temperature the ink is incorporated under your skin. For magnetizing the ink, a magnet is frequently rubbed over the spot.

This technology has some pros and cons.

Advantages

1. You will be alerted to every contact

2. The odd of missing a call boils down to zero.

3. No more nuisances with the loud ringtones.

4. Battery life will probably increase as vibrations and ringtones will no longer be required.

Disadvantages

1. Just because your friends want to say ‘Hi’ you do not want that tactile response to bother you. This is a major drawback. Calls and messages which are trivial will make life bothersome.

2. Unnecessary calls can’t be screened. I wonder whether the technology has room to avoid unwanted calls. Even if it were possible, the technology will be more invasive and it no longer will it be called as tattoo.

3. Tactile response is the key in this technology. However, as humans, it is possible to ignore the response involuntarily. The response to stimuli effect is valid only for responses that occur infrequently over a long period. If you receive several calls per day it shouldn’t surprise for your skin to become numb sooner or later.

Sticker – A Non-Invasive Method

If you find the above technology to be creepy then perhaps you can make use of the alternative. The tattoo is replaced by a sticker which is also magnetized. The sticker vibrates when you receive any call/text message or mail over your mobile.

Conclusion

If this patent comes into action then apart from living as humans we will also take pride in being extensions of smartphones. Isn’t technology our brain child?

Steve Jobs, Apple’s late co-founder, apparently never went to China, at least not on official Apple business. But the new CEO, Tim Cook, just went there and he visited the Apple Store in Joy City, a shopping mall in Xidan, Beijing. Local news posted a photo of Tim taking time to pose with a fan, at the store.

While the real purpose of the visit is a secret, like we’re used to when it comes to Apple, rumors are that Tim Cook whent to China to discuss iPhone 5 with the major mobile carriers there, hopefully this means Apple can finally take their iPhone to China Mobile, the biggest mobile operator in china with more than 600 million subscribers. Actually, despite not even selling the iPhone yet, there are 15 million iPhones on China Mobile’s network already, up from 10 million in October.

But nobody really knows what he was doing in China, besides posing for fan photos. It’s also possible that Tim went there to fix Foxconn strikes before iPhone 5 production, or maybe he went there to negotiate a deal with ProView’s iPad trademark lawsuit?

Either way, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg reports that Tim Cook “had a great time”:

Cook, who is on his first trip to China since becoming chief executive of the Cupertino, Calif.-based company, “had great meetings with Chinese officials today. China is very important to us and we look forward to even greater investment and growth here,” said spokeswoman Carolyn Wu. She declined to identify any of the Chinese officials or give further details on the meetings.

Exactly how important is the Chinese market to Apple? Well, currently you can only find iPhone 4S deals in China by going to China Unicom and China Telecom which are the only two carriers offering the iPhone, despite that, Apple is now activating more iPhones in China than in any other market, including United States. So, quite a big market it would seem.

On another note, rumors are that Apple will soon be adding Baidu as a search engine option in iOS. Perhaps to make Google even less part of iOS, or perhaps just because Baidu is a much bigger search engine in China than Google, accounting for around 80% of all Chinese searches.

Now it appears that the problem also exists on Android, where it’s probably even worse as the app doesn’t even need to ask for any kind of permission. The only thing the app requires is being able to communicate with the internet, which basically all apps does in one way or another – and certainly most users will not hesitate to say “yes” to allow that.

New York Times made a test application which would take the latest photo on your mobile and upload it to a public photo-sharing website. The user was only informed that the app required access to the internet – and that’s it, and it worked.

The biggest problem is that it’s easier to install “bad apps” on Android compared to iPhone, where Apple runs a tight ship with their App Store, having to approve every single app first, before it makes it onto the store. Google doesn’t check apps on Android Market (except if they suspect something is wrong, they may look into it and remove an app), and they don’t check any apps that’s installed from outside their Market.

Basically, be careful what you install on your smartphone – and extra careful if you’re an Android user, and extra extra careful if you install apps from outside Android Market.
Related Articles:

Rumors said Apple would announce the iPad 3 on March 7th – and now it’s been confirmed. Apple just sent out an invitation to the press (see photo above), which clearly indicates that it has something to do with iPad’s.

The press event will take place in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, March 7th at 10:00 PST (19:00 CET).

As for the iPad shown on the photo above, MacRumors apparently got a hold of the screen in the new iPad 3 a short while ago. They examined it and conduced that the pixel size was 4 times smaller on this new display compared to iPad 2, meaning iPad 3 will likely have a 4x higher resolution. Judging by the photo above, where you can see how crisp the text is, “Calendar”, I’d say it seems very likely the new iPad 3 has a pretty sweet resolution!

Gizmodo also chimes in with an analysis of the iPad 3 invitation photo, they claim the iPad is shown in portrait mode on the photo, and since we can’t see a Home button on the photo, the Home button must be gone from the new iPad 3 – or moved elsewhere.

Exciting!
