New Twitter Feature (BETA): Retweet To Share Tweets

Logging into Twitter.com yesterday, I found this appeared at the top of the page:

twitter_retweet_icon

Since it says that I’m part of the beta group, I assume not all of you have seen this one before, which is why I decided to share it with you and give a heads up of what you might be seeing soon.

To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what the purpose is of this. Isn’t it just to replace the text “RT” with an icon?

Also I noticed that you can now have Twitter hide retweets that are not from the user himself. I assume it’s a filter that just removes tweets that begins with “RT @[another-username]”.

    • Chandan – could you please stop using the “work from home” bit behind your name? ALL your comments end up in my spam queue and I can’t promise I will keep finding them (as there’s A LOT OF SPAM in there!) … I think they might go there because of that, but I’m not sure. Either way, I don’t currently allow keywords as part of the name either 🙂

      Thanks!

        • Thanks 🙂 Of course your above comment went to my spam also hehe, maybe it was because of the “work from home”-part. We’ll see what happens next time.

  2. Some people like this and some hate this feature. I prefer using the regular RT, it’s simple and easy to understand while I’m not sure I understand how this beta feature works.

    • Exactly. The “RT” thing is one of the first things that new twitter users learn about 🙂 And even I don’t fully understand this new feature – or maybe it’s just as simple as it sounds…
