Facebook: Top Status Trends 2009

Facebook logoEach year, Google announce the most popular searches throughout the year and now Facebook wants to get a piece of that pie. Facebook looks through words posted in status updates from users in the USA, to determine “words of the year”.

1st place:
Various Facebook applications, where words such as “MafiaWars” and “FarmVille” are found very often.

2nd place:
“FML” which stands for “F*** My Life”. An expression often used by young Americans during exams, according to Facebook.

3rd place:
Swine flu / H1N1 and similar.

The entire top 15 list can be found on the Facebook blog.

I would love a Facebook application that could browse through all my own status updates to determine my top status trends, would be interesting to know…

  2. I would love to find out what’s my most frequent status as well, but I can guarantee you it’s no way near MafiaWar. lol.. Facebook must be happy that their gaming app got no.1. Unfortunately I am trying to stay away from them. Imagine how many invitation sent in my way.. it’s just not how I like to use Facebook. 🙂

Happy holidays, Klaus. Wish you a great year in 2010!

    • I stopped using many of the Facebook games too. Take too much time away from me. Time, I would rather spend learning something, taking pictures, blogging 🙂

Happy holidays to you too Ching Ya and happy new year as well 🙂

  3. While it’s not surprising that swine flu was at the top of the list, I’m a bit surprised that the MafiaWars game was up there. I didn’t realize it was so popular. On the other hand, I think MafiaWars might update your status automatically if you let it (not sure about this) so if that’s the case, it does make sense. In either case, I agree with you – I’d like to see what my most commonly used status words were too.

    • MafiaWars and FarmVille are huge. I don’t know how many users MafiaWars has but FarmVille is over 70 million. And yep, the apps might auto-update the status every now and then or at least ask the user to just click “publish” and then it will put the text by itself. Really annoying for the rest of us, having to read all the “I just harvested my tomatoes in FarmVille”-kinda messages.
