Top 10 Things You Should Not Share on Social Networks

Top Secret fileHowStuffWorks published an article on the top 10 things you should not share on social networks, which I strongly encourage all social network users to read. The article covers those 10 things below, that they recommend you never share on a social network site:

  1. Anything You Don’t Want Shared
  2. Password Hints
  3. Your Password
  4. Personal Finance Information
  5. Your Address and Phone Number
  6. Photos of Your Kids
  7. Company Information
  8. Linking Sites
  9. Social Plans
  10. Personal Conversations

Are you sharing any of the above mentioned things on any of your social network profiles? I’m “proud” to say that I’m not, and things I do share, I make every effort possible to make sure that only the right people will have access to it.

Your Address and Phone Number

  1. I would like to add one more: People often tend to disclose the answer of their security question on Social Networks. This may cause their accounts to be hacked. So remember this!

  2. Isn’t that amazing people forget that the whole world can see their comments/page if they want to. One of my friends actually discussed the reorg at his company – over Twitter! I sent him a private message to remind him that he’ll end up like the Cisco Fatty!

  4. This reminds me of what my college friend wrote next to “Phone Number” on his Facebook profile page. He wrote, “You’re kidding, right?” Of course, since you control who sees your Facebook profile, that might not be as dangerous.

  5. Excellent topic, especially in todays day and age. It’s more important today to communicate this stuff with your kids and at a time when communication between individuals on a personal level is at an all time low.

  6. Great details of what not to share.

I can see people using it for anything but GOOD, if you know what I mean.

  7. Well, it may be a good idea to visit one of the sites showing what people reveal on social sites and how dangerous it could be. By learning from others’ mistakes one may avoid duplicating them.
