Vodafone Malta: iPhone 4 – “Coming Soon”

Vodafone Malta is now listing the iPhone 4 as “coming soon” on their website, despite Apple has not yet said anything public as to when iPhone 4 will actually reach Malta. Malta is not included in the next batch of countries to receive iPhone 4 in late July: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong … Read more →

iPhone 3GS In Malta Has Arrived

Vodafone MaltaAccording to Vodafone Malta and the “iPhone 3G/3GS in Malta”-Facebook group, Vodafone Malta now has the 16GB iPhone 3GS available and in stock. You may have to go to Dickens in Sliema to get one though, I’m not sure yet.

The list price is €599 but they also write “Special offer price: €75” – not sure exactly what that includes, could be for business plans only. I do believe, however, that the €599 price is without contract – but probably still simlocked, expect prices to be as high as €200 to have it unlocked (for the 3G at least, probably the same with the 3GS).

Personal price plans ranges from €40 a month to €100 a month – for 24 months (!!!) – including minutes, text and data.

iPhone 3GS In Malta By Vodafone Late October

Steve Jobs with iPhoneSorry non-Maltese readers, you will probably not find this one that much interesting. However, I know a lot of people in Malta are getting really impatient waiting for the iPhone 3GS to arrive in Malta and Vodafone doesn’t seem to be willing to release any information at all, not even an expected release date. When iPhone 3GS was first announced by Apple they said, I believe, that both Malta and Denmark would be receiving the iPhone 3GS On July 9th (as I recall). Three danish providers (Telenor, Telia and “3”) recently announced that they will start selling the iPhone 3GS on July 31st, that’s 3 weeks later than the expected date by Apple.

Why I’m getting an iPhone 3GS – No Matter What!

iPhone shelfDo you have it yet, the iPhone 3GS? No? Me neither 🙁 But it’s not because I don’t want it, it’s because I can’t!! My current iPhone 3G was purchased at Vodafone Malta last year for €515 (US$ 723) without a contract but still sim-locked to the Vodafone network. Recently I had it unlocked at Vodafone for €70 (US$ 98), down from the normal €200 (US$ 281), because they originally told me €70 but later increased the price to €200.

Had I bought it with a 2-year contract (only option), it would – after 2 years – have costed me between €1,255 (US$ 1,764) for the €40 (US$ 53) monthly plan and €2,400 (US$3,370) for the €100 (US$ 140) monthly plan. Not exactly cheap, but the monthly plans do come with minutes, texts and data, bear in mind.
