Self Pity – Stop Feeling Sorry For Yourself!

I found this video on human mindset by Karl Moore as part of the 30 Day Challenge to be very interesting and true indeed – I already knew about the principles explained in the video, but lots of people don’t – and even if they do – it’s good to have it refreshed in your memory, every now and then.

In this video Karl is talking about how to overcome self pity. I won’t give out all the details here, you would have no reason for watching the video then 🙂

Some people waste their whole lives feeling sorry for themselves, having a “pity party.” Reminds me of “Get over it” by the Eagles. Love that song!

What’s a “pity party” – is that really something people do? 🙂

Christie August 15, 2009 at 00:58

Hahaa! 😀 I’d always thought of it as just a self-indulgence in feeling sorry for oneself, as in, “I guess I’ll knock off the pity party now and change the subject,” but it looks like some people do have a little party!

Sounds a lot like something girl teenagers would do, those pity parties 🙂

It bugs me when people complain and bring on lots of drama. I wonder if they realize how toxic they are? Some folks just want people to feel sorry for them and THRIVE on it. They will only change if they want to, not just because their loved ones are bugging them to.

Interesting post. 🙂

Self pity is a very powerful emotion. Yet, when we are feeling self pity, we rarely express it to others as, I am feeling sorry for myself. It is most frequently observed in people with low self esteem. This in turn, fuels our sense of pity for ourselves, keeping us trapped.

Self pity might be one of the most dangerous feelings. It leads nowhere nice but self-isolation, ego-centered and depression. Yet this self pity might be induced by the environment you live in, by a low level of self-esteem, fears etc. Once we spot the cause it will be piece of cake to solve the problem. 🙂

Hi Klaus,

just stumbled across this old blog post. The link to Karl Moore’s video doesn’t work anymore, but your blog post got me thinking. So I searched for similar videos on YouTube.

Anyway, I like how TechPatio blogged about topics like mental health as well.
