Nikon: Why in-lens stabilization (VR) is better than in-camera [video]

Nikon published in a recent article four reasons why in-lens stabilization (Vibration Reduction) is better than in-camera stabilization:

  1. Corrected finder image makes photo composition easy.
  2. Each lens is optimally tuned to achieve reliable correction.
  3. Image information captured by the AF and metering sensors is corrected with in-lens VR.
  4. Patterns of image blur are not the same with all lenses.

  1. I am sure that this Nikon in-lens stabilization is a great improvement compared to other forms of vibration reduction. The video in this article is a real eye opener. When you watch it carefully you will understand the high tech level of this solution.

  3. First, you should not use the stabilizer if it is not necessary, however never use it if the exposure time is quicker than 1/500s because the VR works to 1000Hz and we know from Nyquist that we can solve the data accurately only when we use a frequency less than half of the sampling.
