A Rookie Blogger? Factors to Consider Before Deciding on a Hosting Provider

A blog can generate traffic for your business website or it may itself act as an interactive website. You can pursue a hobby using a blog or use it to sell an e-book, antique collections or anything else. If you have recognized your purpose of having a blog, the next big challenge is to choose a blog hosting service. Considering your first attempt of blogging, here are some valuable tips to help you choose the right hosting provider:

Hosted Solutions vs. Hosting Providers

A number of hosted solutions are good for novice bloggers, but they suffer from some major drawbacks. You can sign up with a hosted solution like Blogger.com and obtain a sub-domain for your blog. However, you may not get the desired exposure with these solutions. Moreover, the hosted solution provider may remove your blog content without your consent. If you have a serious reason for blogging, it is better to have your own hosting account with a web host service provider.

Compatible Scripts and Platforms

You may use a variety of web scripts and codes to make your blog more useful and effective. Going further, you may use one of the popular platforms like WordPress.com which runs on PHP. Before you decide on a hosting provider, you must ensure that all the scripts and platforms will be compatible with the package being offered. There must be easy-to-install features and tools that should help you run the blog smoothly.

In addition, you don’t always need to be worried about the price. If you are just starting out and are short of budget, you can try out any coupon blog and catch some discount coupons such as yahoo store coupon or anhosting coupon code 2012.

Allocated Resources

A hosting provider will allocate some important resources for your blog to run online:

  • Disk Space: It is the space that the hosting provider will offer to store your blog on its server. Take into account your current and future storage needs to choose the package offering enough disk space.
  • Bandwidth: It is the amount of data that the hosting provider will allow you to transfer on monthly basis. Choosing a package with enough bandwidth will also depend upon your blogging needs.

Reliability and Security

It is very important for your blog to succeed that it remains up and going throughout the day. You must discuss the speed and up-time that the service provider offers to keep your blog visible throughout. In addition, consider the security features that the package contains to prevent any type of security violations. Have a look at what type of blogs and websites the hosting provider has been hosting.

Support – Technical and Customer

Being an inexperienced blogger, you would like your hosting provider to assist you in technical issues. From installation of software and tools to resolving of technical problems, the service provider should be there to help you. Moreover, the hosting provider must be accessible round-the-clock to entertain your queries without putting you on hold.

Hosting Package Cost

Finally, you must consider the price of the hosting package being offered. Avoid choosing free blog hosting packages as they offer limited features and functionality. At the same time, compare the prices offered by different hosting providers to choose the best deal.

A successfully running blog is most important in achieving the goals of being on the internet. Carefully choose the best hosting provider to take the first right step in this direction.

  3. I have 1 main requirement:

I want root access. Give me control over my own stuff, and I’m happy. I’m a better admin then any provider can provide at any cost.

  4. Good post. All important factors. And now with Google (allegedly) factoring in site speed for rank, speed becomes very important.

It’s important anyway for user experience..

  7. Write in the first person instead of third person. People will notice that you are a real human running a real journal (whatever this journal is), an not a soulless internet website. To be unique, write only unique content. It is the quality of content that attracts visitors. It should be useful at least.

  9. Actually, the first thing I check on a hosting provider is speed. Ping the host and make sure that it will load your site quickly. Then I check to make sure the host has a good reputation and reliable uptime. You want to make sure that your site is always up and running and loads quickly. I think those are the two areas that are the most important when looking into a hosting provider.

  10. Hi
I launched my blog – http://www.theSarayiahpost.com in late August 2011. I went through a very tough time and it (or Devine inspiration) inspired me to create it. It is about unlocking the Mysteries of Life, Love and Relationships to help others using my views and experiences. Since I launched it my traffic has been growing exponentially and the site is almost in the top 500,000 in the world (up from 27m at launch in just over 6 months).

I use Just Host as my hosting provider who have (in the whole) been excellent and if you checkout my site you will see what it is like being hosted with them. They have unlimited bandwith and disk space etc and use CPANEL.

Reliability is obviously another key factor and generally speaking they have been very good – I did have a brief spell of downtime about a month ago but they resolved that to my satisfaction.

Anyway, enough of that go and visit my blog and learn the secrets of Life :-).

    Have a wonderful day.
    Love
    Isaac Sarayiah

  13. When you are looking for hosting for your blog, must check what methods they adopt on sudden increased traffic load. Sometimes blogs suffers from high traffic load due to spammers who come to make comment and people who really like to read you content may get server error like “bandwidth Limit Exceed”. So must have good customer support which can solve this issue.
