Adulting 101: the five apps you need

Adult life can be hard to keep organised. It’s something of a juggling act to fit everything in – and the stresses of everyday life can get on top of you. Fortunately, technology has developed to help us get through the struggles of every day and there are now apps available to help us get organised.

1. Hive

Forgetting to put the heating on timer for you getting home from work is a mistake most of us can relate to. With Hive Active Heating you’ll never have to face coming home to a cold house again. Once you’ve installed a wireless thermostat, hub and receiver, you can control your heating whilst on the move using their app.

If you get to work and realise you’ve forgotten to switch off your heating, don’t panic. You can use the app to switch your heating on and off whenever you need to. You might find you’ll save money and energy – and you’ll always be welcomed home with a warm, cosy feeling.

2. Evernote Scannable

Staying organised can be easier said than done. It’s easy to find yourself left with a mountain of unorganised paperwork – and where do you start? Try starting with the Evernote Scannable app. It helps you organise all your important documents.

Use your smartphone camera to scan your documents and the app will create a digital bank of them all. As for business cards, the app will automatically transform the information into a contact on your device, whilst also retrieving extra data from profiles like LinkedIn. Pretty handy, huh?

3. Out of Milk

Planning the grocery shop for a full household can be a fuss – keeping control over what needs to be replaced, and who’s buying what can lead to shopping mishaps. No one wants to end up with three tubs of butter and four loaves of bread, especially if there are only two of you living in the house.

Out of Milk is an app available on Android smartphones that helps to keep your shopping lists organised and up to date. You can update the lists at any time if you need to add an item to it, or tick it off when bought, so that you’ll never end up with enough eggs to feed the entire street.

4. True Potential Investor

Saving and/or investing can be tricky, especially with multiple outgoings to keep up with every month, it can seem as though there is nothing left to put aside. However, True Potential Investor is an app that helps you to organise your investments more effectively.

The self-directed investment service allows you to set a goal, work out how much you’ll need to put away to achieve it and invest your cash direct from the app. You can select from a range of investment portfolios with differing levels of risk to help you meet your financial goal*.

*With investing, your capital is at risk. Investments can fluctuate in value and you may get back less than you invest. Tax rules can change at any time.

5. Seven Minute Workout

Are you struggling to find the time to use your gym membership? Try downloading the 7 Minute Workout app. You can do high-intensity workouts in the comfort of your own home – and as the name suggests, they are only 7 minutes long.

Each workout is a circuit of 12 exercises that are to be completed in 30-second intervals with 10-second breaks. The app is a quick and easy way for those who don’t have a lot of spare time on their hands, but still want to stay fit and lose weight.
