One of the best countries to visit in the Middle East is United Arab Emirates (UAE). If you are planning to make a visit to this vibrant country, then there are many things you need to know about its culture, tradition, things to do and places to visit.

There are seven Emirates in UAE – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah, Ras-Al-Khaimah and Umm-Al-Quwain.

Population

The UAE population is dominated by expatriates who constitute about 80- 90 percent of the total UAE population. Emiratis make only10-15 percent of the total population. Most expatriates belong to countries like Australia, Europe, China, India, Thailand, Iran, Korea, Philippines, South America, Afghanistan and other countries too. It is a melting pot of different nationalities and cultures.

Clothing

As UAE is rooted in Islamic culture, you are expected to dress modestly. In public areas like shopping malls, parks, revealing clothes are to be avoided. Men and women should be expected to dress modestly with clothes covering the tops of arms, knees and legs. Malls in UAE have dress code displayed at the entrance. Emirates like Sharjah and Abu Dhabi are very conservative than Dubai, especially if one is going to the mosque.

Alcohol

UAE has strict alcohol laws. You cannot drink or buy alcohol in public places. If you want to buy, you must have an alcohol license. To drink, you need to go to hotels or bars. Hotels are licensed to serve liquor to guests in UAE. In Sharjah, liquor is not sold. Duty free shops in UAE especially in Dubai, you can get alcohol at economical rates.

Public Display Affection

Laws are stringent in UAE in case they see couples getting intimate in public. If one is caught more than holding hands, then they can get arrested.

Driving in UAE

It is very important to not to drink and drive in UAE. It follows a zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving.

Weather

It is very hot all throughout the year. It is very hot during the summer months from June to September when the temperatures are around 45 C. The best months to visit UAE are during October – April.

Food
