Apple Expected to Sell over 240 Million iPhones in 2021

Apple is expected to sell around 240 to 250 million iPhones in the fiscal year 2021, surpassing a previous record of 231 million iPhone units sold in the fiscal year 2015, according to a forecast by Wedbush analyst Dan Ives.

Ives said, “While the Street is forecasting roughly 220 million iPhone units for FY21, we believe based on this current trajectory and in a bull case Cupertino still has potential to sell north of 240 million units (~250 million could be in the cards – an eye popping figure) which would easily eclipse the previous Apple record of 231 million units sold in FY15.”

Ives assessed that approximately 350 million iPhone users all over the world are currently “in the window of an upgrade opportunity,” which something he believes is “translating into an unprecedented supercycle upgrade cycle” for Apple this year.

If this expected forecast turns out to be accurate, the iPhone 12 can become the most popular unit since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both which saw strong demand right after their launch in September 2014, mainly thanks to their bigger screen sizes.

The huge demand for iPhone 12 units was reported in the tech giant’s blowout first quarter – the first time in Apple’s history to have ever reached a revenue worth $100 billion in a quarter.

Within weeks of its launch, the iPhone 12 quickly soared to the top of the 5G smartphone market that Ives said his channel checks reveal that the so-called “supercycle” relentlessly continues, and not even a chip shortage can slow it down.
