Apple’s Shazam App Hits One Billion Requests a Month

The Apple-owned Shazam app has managed to hit over one billion song requests per month.

The original developer of the app Shazam Entertainment Limited has announced last week that more than a billion songs are being searched using the platform every single month – the first time ever to happen since the launch of the app back in 2012.

Furthermore, the app has tagged over 50 billion songs since its release, thereby displaying the immense growth of the platform in recent years as people use it even more.

Based on a short sample played and using the microphone on the device, Shazam is basically an application that can identify advertising, television shows, movies and most of all, music.

Apple acquired the company in 2018 for a reported sum of $400 million, and now Shazam is offered as part of Siri and iOS. There is actually a Shazam option in the Control Center and as part of the iOS 15 beta, developers can take advantage of the software with the use of a new ShazamKit framework.

The software is available for Android, macOS, iOS, watchOS and Wear OS users.

Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats Oliver Schusser commented, “Shazam is synonymous with magic, both for the fans getting a song recognition almost instantly, and for the artists being discovered.”

“With 1 billion recognitions a month, Shazam is one of the most popular music apps in the world. Today’s milestones show not only people’s love for Shazam, but also the ever-growing appetite for music discovery around the world.”
