My Top 10 Favorite TV Shows

Old Sanyo TelevisionInspired by Dragon Bloggers Top Television Shows-post, I decided to make my own list of the 10 most favorite TV shows of all time – according to me, at least. The list is in no particular order, as it depends on my mood what kind of show I’m most into at the moment.

Seinfeld

“What would George do?” Pretty much anything in life can be solved by thinking “What would George do?” – and then do it. If it doesn’t work, I gurantee, you will have an interesting story to share at your next party…

Some quotes from the Seinfeld show:

George: Jerry, just remember, it’s not a lie if you believe it.
—–
Elaine: Ugh, I hate people.
Jerry: Yeah, they’re the worst.
—–
Telemarketer: Would you be interested in a subscription to the New York Times?
Jerry: Yes.
[hangs up]

The King Of Queens

Doug Heffernan is just pure fun, most of the time. While he might be a bit ignorant from time to time, everything he does has a purpose. There’s no way he’s just going to do something sweet for his wife, Carrie, without expecting to get something in return. That leads to some funny episodes.

Doug Heffernan: Friends just keep you away from TV.
—–
Doug Heffernan: Why fart and waste it, when you can burp and taste it?
—–
Carrie Spooner Heffernan: Hasn’t anyone said you look like someone?
Doug Heffernan: Oh, you mean like every famous fat guy in every movie ever?

Criminal Minds

I like how they try to get into the head of the scumbags in this show. Not everything you might “learn” from this show is a total lie, if you go research some of the things they say about a certain type of behavour you will see that it’s actually true. So if you’re interested in the show, try to do some research on the topics mentioned in different episodes and broaden your horizon a bit.

CSI

I’m talking about the real CSI here folks, not the ripoffs from Miami or New York. It has become more boring the past few years though, this CSI Las Vegas, but the first 6-7 seasons were definitely worth watching, maybe even twice if you have the time.

N.C.I.S.

More fun and cheerful than CSI. I love the cast too. Gibbs is the no-bullshit kinda guy but still manages to appreciate his staff in his own weird way of showing it. DiNozzo, huge movie buff, I like that, kinda makes me “indentify” with him on that part. McGee, probie, is perhaps the character I can identify with the most because of his knowledge of tech and simply being a bit of a geek. Oh, and he has an iPhone too – that does way more cool tricks than the actual real iPhone does!

LOST

There’s so many twists in this show that most of the time I’m completely lost. The first two seasons were great but in 3rd season it started going downhill and the 4th season was crap. Season 5 kicked it up a knotch and I quite liked it. It’ll be exciting to see how season 6 turns out to be.

The Big Bang Theory

The “geekiest” show that I know of. Many people might find it lame, but if you’re a bit more into tech and gadgets than the average human being and you like comedy, you will love this show for sure. Also, in my case since English is not my first language, I’ve learned a bunch of new words from this show – words that I’ve never heard before, I then google them (if I can get the spelling right) and find out what they mean. Hey, what gives, TV has actually taught me something!!

Sheldon: You have about as much chance of going out with Penny as the Hubble Telescope has of finding that at the center of each black hole there’s a little man with a flashlight trying to find the circuit breaker.
—–
Leonard: [discussing Sheldon’s work] At least I didn’t have to invent 26 dimensions to get the math to work.
Sheldon: I didn’t invent them. They’re there.
Leonard: Yeah? In what universe?
Sheldon: In all of them, that’s the point!
—–
Howard Wolowitz: If it’s “creepy” to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I’m “creepy”.

The Simpsons

Needs no introduction…. just some fun quotes, here we go:

Homer: D’oh!
—–
Bart: Can I have a beer?
Homer: All right, but not the imported.
Marge: Homer!
Homer: You’ve got to set limits, Marge.
—–
Homer: I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”
—–
Bart: Dad, I think I need some fresh air. Can I go to the park?
Homer: Do I have to sit up?
Bart: No.
Homer: Knock yourself out.

The Unit

Very exciting military show with some minor twists every now and then. The stories are usually interesting and exciting to watch as they plan how it all goes down and then executes it.

Two And A Half Men

How can you not love the two and a half men in this show? Of course it’s Charlie, Allan and Jake I’m talking about. They’re great together and have been for all 6 seasons so far. It’s the kind of show that will get a bit boring if watching it every day or multiple episodes after eachother, but it does a great job of being that “every now and then show” and “hmm what do I feel like watching… two and a half men, sure why not!”

Charlie: Jake. What do men have that women dont?
Jake: Beards.
Charlie: no. Lower
Jake: (in a lower voice tone) Beards
—–
Charlie: Feelings are like your mother’s breasts..you know they’re there, but they’re better left unfelt
—–
Charlie: Alan, there’s something you should know about me. When I say I understand, it doesn’t mean I agree. It doesn’t mean I understand. It doesn’t even mean I’m listening.
Alan: Then why do you say it?
Charlie: It seems to make people happy, and that’s what I’m all about.

So, I believe that is the list of my 10 most favorite TV shows. I watch more than those, though, but they are not as “epic” as the above – seen through my eyes, that is. But just to give credit where due, I also like shows such as Weeds, Top Gear, The West Wing, 24, Burn Notice, Damages, …. ok I better stop now before this gets out of hand.

So tell me, how much do you hate my list of favorite TV shows? Anyone in particular that you simply cannot stand? Otherwise simply feel free to sound off in the comments with your favorite shows – maybe I’m missing out on some great stuff worth watching? If you post about it on your blog, don’t forget to leave a link to it 🙂

  1. I have a new favorite – Bones. I started watching it late last year, and now I’m TiVoing the reruns too. The main character, Dr. Temperance Brennan, has no social skills at all, and it can be so hilarious to hear what she says. Dr. Brennan is lovingly called “Bones” by her FBI sidekick, and she also has a lab full of lovable geeky cool scientists. Together they solve murders, sort of CSI-ish, but often finding the cause of death/murderer from evidence in the bones themselves.

  2. My girlfriend loves CSI. If I see one more CSI episode I dont know what I would do. I know more about getting away with murder than I like to know. Even worst she can watch a rerun of the same episode 3 times in a roll like its new and I am stuck watching it with her. GRRR!

Out of your list my favorites are The King Of Queens and Two And Half Men.

  3. Bones you say, never heard of it. But the show does seem to have a pretty good rating, 8.5 out of 10 on IMDB. And with 5 seasons so far, it’s probably worth giving it a try. I’ll see if I can purchase some episodes on iTunes Store. Thanks for the tip!

  4. Deneil – hehe, I know how you feel… except I have that feeling with Desperate Housewives etc instead 🙂

CSI-like shows are not worth watching multiple times within a short period of time, I recently started watching season 1 of Criminal Minds and N.C.I.S. again, but it’s always 4-5 years since I watched the episodes last.

  6. I suppose you’re right, a bit…. and to make it worse, I was actually touring Universal Studios a few months ago, so I ..ehm … drove on Wisteria Lane, or whatever it’s called, that Desperate Housewives street! /embarrassed

  8. I didn’t see any of the actresses no, unfortunately. That would have been cool though. I wonder when they actually get to film down there, those busses we drove in seemed to be coming through all the sets in the Universal Studios every 5 minutes or so. No indication or information that they excluded certain areas of the tour when filming was going on.

Hmm, the tour guide *did* say that when you go to the movies, the film makers does nothing but lie to you for 2 hours… I bet the sets were fake too, they do the actual filming somewhere else 🙂

  9. Good list. I think you should look into “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia.” If you like Seinfeld you will love “Its always sunny in Philadelphia.” If Hulu is blocked outside of the US, then go to YouTube and look up some of the clips, you will love it.

  10. Hulu is blocked, yes 🙁

But “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia” has a very good IMDB rating too, so I should try and find it. Thanks for the tip!

  11. Of the shows you listed, my wife and I watch Lost regularly (we LOVE this show), and CSI and Seinfeld (syndication) every now and then. We also watch 24, How I Met Your Mother, and 30 Rock. With the exception of How I Met Your Mother, we discovered all of the shows after the fact. We started watching 24 on iTunes and then DVD, and Lost on DVD and Hulu. In both cases, we got addicted and blew through several seasons quickly. Just recently, she went through 2 seasons of 30 Rock using Netflix streamed to our TiVo. Of course, she also got addicted to Buck Rogers in the 25th Century that way, too.
