Angry Birds is definitely one of the most popular mobile games of all time, with several different versions introduced since it was first released back in 2009. Rovio Entertainment, the creator of the game, is now bringing the original Angry Birds game back to the Apple App Store with a whole new engine and guess what – no in-app purchases!
Rovio announced the comeback last month, and the game has been totally rebuilt using the Unity engine for a more sustainable experience across different platforms and devices. Despite the modern changes, Rovio assures that the company has preserved every component of the original Angry Birds game in this new release.
Executive producer Sami Ronkainen said, “While we were rebuilding Angry Birds, we took great care to preserve the feeling of the original Angry Birds game. We know our fans are a discerning bunch and will be able to pick out even small differences. Matching the gameplay and appearance of the game next to the original was crucial.”
The faithful re-make was taken from the game version available on the App Store in 2012, before it was discontinued. Rovio removed the first Angry Birds game from the App Store in 2019 mainly because it was no longer fully compatible with newer devices.
A great thing about this new release is that, unlike other Angry Birds games, Rovio has opted to go back to its roots when it comes to the business model. Instead of going on the route of a freemium game with paid extra content, Angry Birds Classic has no advertisements and no in-app purchases – very much like in the old days.
As an added bonus, the pig-destroying power-up Mighty Eagle, will be made available to all players absolutely for free! An in-app purchase offered in the original Angry Birds game, the Mighty Eagle helps players to overcome some of the intensely challenging levels. Players can also use this big bird to achieve a 100% Eagle Score in every level, apart from the classic three-star achievement.
Angry Birds is now available on the App Store and Google Play as a premium download for only $0.99.
Note that Rovio released last year the Angry Birds Reloaded exclusively on the Apple Arcade – also a remaster of the original game, but with some extra levels and new characters.
