Netflix may soon offer Games on TVs, with iPhone as controller

Netflix, one of the world’s leading entertainment services, has been reportedly working on a feature that significantly expands its gaming product to include TV gaming, and players can use their iPhones as a controller.

The company first introduced Netflix Games back in 2021, adding a new kind of entertainment aside from its streaming services. The games can be played on iPhones, iPads and Android devices. The gaming library offers a variety of titles, many of which were inspired by popular Netflix TV shows, such as Stranger Things 3: The Game.

According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, a hidden code inside the Netflix app says that Netflix Games might soon come to TV sets for the first time, and the iPhone can be used as a video game controller. For now, the games are only available for play on tablets and smartphones.

Netflix Games is quite similar to Apple Arcade, which is priced at $5 a month or is included in the Apple One subscription. Those who avail a Netflix subscription can enjoy access to the games when they log in to their user account.

A list of 50+ Netflix Games are currently available on their Help page, neatly divided into categories like Action, Adventure, Arcade, Card, Music, Party, Puzzle, Racing, Role-Playing, Simulation, Sports, Strategy and Tabletop. Some of the titles include:

  • Exploding Kittens
  • Narcos: Cartel Wards Unlimited
  • Tomb Raider Reloaded
  • Valiant Hearts: Coming Home
  • Stranger Things: 1984
  • SpongeBob: Get Cooking

The idea for these games is that they are an additional type of offering next to Netflix’s movies and TV shows, which help retain customers as the company raises its subscription prices.
