TechPatio Finally Moved to VPS Hosting

logo_surftown

Earlier today I posted a little bit about my issues with moving techpatio.com to another form of hosting, so called VPS (Virtual Private Server), with Surftown.

It seems I have finally solved the worst problems and at least now the site is running and e-mails are able to be sent out (comments etc.).

While there still may be some issues I need to iron out, I hope the readers won’t mind – also if the page should become unstable or simply not answer for a short while.

Hopefully the site will also begin to have faster load times rather than being on a shared server and now that the move is pretty much complete, I can finally start concentrating on creating some posts ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Congrats on the move…I was contemplating moving my site to a private server but it costs a lot more ๐Ÿ™

Let us know the differences you see, I’m curious to see what kind of benefits are noticeable. I think it might help SEO a bit too? BTW, I signed up for usenet through your link, hope you see some $$ from it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hi Alan – sorry for taking so long to get back to you ๐Ÿ™ Things have been so busy with the VPS moving and I litteraly spent up to 10 hours researching, trial & error etc. I couldnt’ get the stupid server to send e-mails and I’m no Linux guru so when having to do most of the stuff in the command line using SSH, it gets tricky ๐Ÿ™‚

But you’re right – moving to a private server (VPS) costs quite a lot more than a shared hosting plan, but still cheaper than a dedicated server. If your site runs great on its current hosting then no need for you to upgrade, I’d say. Mine also ran okay on the shared plan but I did experience a bit too much of downtime and sometime it was running a little bit slow because there are hundreds of websites hosted on shared servers.

SEO shouldn’t really get affected though. It’s possible that Google might like sites that loads faster but I’ve never really seen any reports say that “if your site is slower than XX then your rankings will suffer”.

Hey thanks for purchasing usenet through my link – you’re a real pal ๐Ÿ™‚ Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions etc.

  4. Wow congrats. I’ve been wondering to move my tech blog to a VPS server but the cost was a bit too much and I found it unnecessary at this stage ๐Ÿ˜€

Perhaps when I’ve got 5000 visitors a day, then I’ll reconsider

    • Hi Michael.

Well it seems to me that your site is loading fast enough so you’re probably not in need for VPS right now anyway, unless you have special needs ๐Ÿ™‚

My shared hosting plan came with safe mode ON and that really sucks. Luckily VPS doesn’t, so my WordPress Dashboard has some more “features” now.

5000 visitors a day – let’s agree that I cross my fingers for you getting that amount, if you cross yours that I’ll be getting 4500 a day ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Loads just fine for me. Congrats on the move ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been on a dedicated server with all of my sites on one machine for a few years now.

    • Hi Anne.

Thanks – and I’m glad it loads fine for you ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re on a dedicated server? Wow, that must be expensive ๐Ÿ™‚ But also quite a performance you’ll be getting from it – and you can do pretty much anything you want, too.

    • Your site looks very clean and is not stuffed with images and such, so I’m sure you’re saving a lot of bandwidth on that account. Plus your site loads really quick. VPS for you – not necessary yet, but when you become famous, I would probably recommend it ๐Ÿ˜‰
