It’s been one year already, since App Store was launched along with the iPhone 3G. When App Store was first launched it came with around 500 applications and the next weekend they had already 10 million downloads. Nine months later, Apple’s App Store reached one billion downloads and had over 35,000 applications in place. No matter what you want to do, you can pretty much always say “there’s an app for that”. Wanna go fishing? There’s an app for that…
But it’s not all happiness shining on the App Store. Throughout the period, Apple has received quite some criticism from developers because the developers had their applications rejected in the App Store or because Apple is too slow paying the developers for their app sales.
Nevertheless, several of Apple’s competitors have been – and still are – copying the whole App Store concept. Such as Nokia Ovi Store and Sony Ericsson PlayNow Arena. SUN is also expecting a Java app store. So far, none of them had the same kind of success as Apple.
I like the App Store, I think it has plenty of apps so I don’t even bother jailbreaking my iPhone 3G. I have almost 4 “home screens” filled with apps from the App Store on my iPhone, besides the original applications that came with the iPhone.
How many apps do you have from the App Store? Leave a comment below (you get a DoFollow link back to your site!) or tweet me.
