I don’t jailbreak. I’m not against jailbreaking but I don’t do it myself and I don’t recommend it to anyone. Those who are tech savvy enough to jailbreak, will figure it out by themselves sooner or later.
With that said, I was curious to try out the recent iPhone 4 jailbreak – and unlock by Dev Team – which was just released by Dev Team in Cydia. Mostly because my iPhone 4 hasn’t been legally unlocked yet, I expect it to be within the next 48 hours, but who can wait that long?
All I did, was visit www.jailbreakme.com from the iPhone Safari browser and let it do its thing. It only took a minute or so and my iPhone was now jailbroken and Cydia was added to the homescreen. Launching Cydia and it will ask if you want to update, I did a “complete upgrade” and then I went to search for “ultrasn0w” and it appeared. If it doesn’t appear, you might have to add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com in Cydia.
Now the only thing left to do, is click on “Install” for ultrasn0w within Cydia and within a minute, iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.1 has been unlocked (takes a reboot).
That’s it. Enjoy your unlock!
I kept hearing about jailbreaking but honesty I don’ understand a thing about it.
yah its simple , but there are tons of issues with the cydia installer …
Hi Sourish. What kind of issues? I’d love to know, since mine is currently jailbroken.
wow !! thats great you have an iphone 4. Well currently users are posting ther trouble in my forum . Like Cydia errors , FaceTime , and other display trouble
Jailbreaking is like unlocking the feature on the phone.
but “unlocking” is a term used for carrier unlock among iphone users .
I don’t understand why you would want to unlock you phone either. Are you able to do more things, are you unable to access certain things if you unlock it.?
Hi Shane. Unlock is only so that you can use it with other SIM cards than the one you got it with. For example, in USA, they buy it with AT&T contract. But if you don’t want to use it with AT&T, you either have to pay AT&T a fee to unlock it – or you jailbreak it and unlock it yourself, and then you can put a Verizon SIM card (or whatever) into it.
The list is endless , i get almost 5- 10 post jailbreak issues in the jailbreak forum of my blog . you may like to have a look .
I’m just waiting for the provider to unlock my iPhone 4 legally, so hopefully tomorrow they’ve done it and then I can restore it back to normal, without jailbreak.
Iphone users basically do the jailbreak to Rn cydia containing 3rd party apps , otherwise not allowed by apple
