Video & Pictures: Pope’s Visit to Naxxar, Malta

Pope Benedit XVI is in Malta this weekend, visiting during April 17-18th, 2010. He landed at Malta International Airport at around 5pm and after all the formal stuff was taken care of, he drove around in his Popemobile to greet people, on his way to other destinations.

I figured, since I was only a walk away from one of the places he would be passing, I might as go and see what it was all about. I wasn’t the only one, but I wasn’t expecting that either, lots of people were lining up to get a glimpse.

The Pope is big here in Malta. So big, that it seems his visit is a direct reason for many roads being fixed. I’ve been here for some years now and the roads have always been in terrible condition – but now, some of the major roads are now in top-notch condition. It probably won’t last long, but they’re way better than before.

Anyway, here’s a few of my pictures, taken with my Nikon D5000. There’s no picture of the Popemobile as I just switched into video mode as he arrived, since it would have been too dark for me to get any proper shots of him anyway, given the speed it was passing with. Video is below the pictures.

  2. I’m not sure whey a lot of people think the pope coming around is such a big deal, I mean he’s just the symbol not the deity.
