Woman Sues Google Because She Walked On a Highway

This sounds like a joke, but I’m afraid not. A woman from Los Angeles now sues Google because she used Google Maps which told her to walk down a rural highway – without sidewalk or pedestrian paths. She ended up being struck by a car and now sues Google for medical expenses ($100,000) plus punitive damages.

Yeah and she’s suing the driver who struck her, too.

The complaint filing says:

“As a direct and proximate cause of Defendant Google’s careless, reckless and negligent providing of unsafe directions, Plaintiff Lauren Rosenberg was led onto a dangerous highway, and was thereby stricken by a motor vehicle, causing her to suffer sever permanent physical, emotional, and mental injuries, including pain and suffering.”

Too bad the woman got struck by the car – but come on, what did she expect when she decides to walk on a highway?!

  1. I have heard of this news indeed. Frankly speaking, I don’t think it is the mistake of Google, because most times, we users gain lots of benefits from Google Maps.

By the way, waiting for your income report of May, 2010. ^_^

    • Hi 🙂

I agree, it’s not a mistake of Google. On Google’s web version of “pedestrian guidance” they also write that it’s in beta etc. It doesn’t show on their mobile edition though, but I assume they assume people are aware that walking onto a highway is not a good choice.

Thanks for asking about my income report – it should be up tonight 🙂

  2. Ridiculous. Does no one have common sense? Google also lists business that have since closed down. Should I sue them because the Chinese restaurant is gone?!

  3. Of course, Google may have provided bad maps, but a human has a brain in order to think themselves! An excellent example of stupidity from both sides. And I will not even be excited if the driver has been also using Google maps and chosen a wrong way, which has led him to striking the woman. And if he sues Google as well, I won’t be excited too.

  6. Sometimes I get so pissed at the frivolities of Americans. She can’t try that stunt over here in Africa cause the court would throw her case out. Unemployment is no
excuse to rip off companies for our foolishness.

@sonlinebiz, not all Americans are dumb, but I agree with your statement :D! But wow, common sense dictates not to walk on a path, that leads you to head on traffic collisions!
