Searching for the Thinnest Smartphone

In today’s smartphone market, consumers are on the hunt for items with the most cutting edge and advanced features. Some people have to sell an old smartphone just so that they can they can have enough money and have that state-of-the-art phone. That being said, the question is, does size matter? Well, it does in the mobile market. Companies battle over titles so they can further their advertising and marketing efforts. One good example is the competition over which company has the world’s thinnest smartphone.

Apple vs. Samsung

Just recently, Apple won the rights for their iPhone to be called as the “world’s thinnest smartphone” in United Kingdom.

Even if the Samsung Galaxy S II is 81.71mm thick and the iPhone 4 is 9.3mm thick, Apple still got the title because of some technicality.

Because of some prominent bulges on top of Samsung’s device, the UK’s Advertising Authority gave Apple the green light. The Galaxy S II will only be second to the iPhone 4 in that case. The Advertising Authority also stated that “Apple said consumers would not be interested in the thinnest part of the device, but in its overall measurements, as these would, for example, affect whether the device could fit into a pocket or purse.”

Then they also added that “the iPhone 4’s thickest point was thinner than the thickest point of the Samsung Galaxy S II.”

This way, Apple won over Samsung and it keeps on messing up the latter. Even so, the title will only bear Apple’s name in the United Kingdom. For some countries, the decision will depend on the provisions set by each region’s advertising authority.

Indeed, Apple has been messing with Samsung a lot nowadays. There have been lawsuits in its last sessions with Apple on the winning end and Samsung on the opposite side.

There have also been patent problems raised against Samsung. Apple seems to win in every legal case, making a huge blow on Samsung’s sales. Why? This is because once Samsung loses the case, it is not permitted to sell its products. This is something costly for the company and its products that are supposedly an illegal replica of Apple’s product patents.

To date, there have been phones from Samsung that have been banned from being sold. But that doesn’t mean that Samsung doesn’t have new models you can upgrade to if you have an old unit. You just have to know how to sell your old smartphone.

The iPhone for Steve

However, when the iPhone 4S was released everything went well for Apple. Unfortunately, just two days after the record-breaking iPhone 4S release, former Apple CEO and co-founder, Steve Jobs passed away. This made the iPhone 4S labeled as the iPhone for Steve. Apple faced a huge loss just 48 hours after celebrating a successful product launch.

As of the moment, the iPhone 4S may not be the thinnest smartphone available. However, if you want money to upgrade to an iPhone, then why not sell your smartphone or [tp lang=”en” only=”y”]Sell Used Electronics?[/tp][tp not_in=”en”]Sell Used Electronics?[/tp] There are companies that allow you to do that, so you can have some cash to upgrade to an iPhone.

  1. I think iPhone 4s is the thinnest among the smartphones that’s currently available in the market today. It is one of the best too. I wish I have one.

  2. The physical variables have always been a key issue when it comes to user preferences. Even on newer products like tablets its still an issue of interest. But one needs to realize that thinner doesn’t always mean better – especially when it comes to technology.

  3. Nowadays top smartphone have little hardware differences.
What matters is design and the Operative System because there are only 2 kind of person who buy smartphone: business man and “nerd”
Design matters for business people, the OS matters if you like to tweak your phone.
The Nokia N8 has a great hardware but it fails with its Symbian OS.
And the most successful Samsung products have Android, so they do not use their OS called Bada.
Top apps developers works with iOS and Android.
Blackberry still owns a piece of cake, Windows Phone try to emerge.

  4. I don’t think thinner is better, it can become pretty uncomfortable at times. A thin smartphone can be a bit clumsy to handle. A thin profile is always nice but not too thin.

  5. iPhone 4s is slimmest phone right now. But I’m sure in coming days we’ll have new slimmest phone. 🙂

Mobile market is really dynamic and every month you come to know about new launch from mobile market leaders.

  6. for me the better phone it not based on to the thicknesses because, a better phone is based on the more features, functionality and durability. These properties of phone are commonly looking a good consumer.
    Thank to this article.

  7. It is said that iPhone 5 will be super thin iPhone among smart phones. Apple has made it thin by eliminating touch screen layer and integrated touch into the LCD. Today in the mobile market, iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III are long waited smart phones and everyone’s eyes are on them. One by one their features are introduced and the curiosity of mobile users go on increasing. But the main focus is on their thin body.
