stylus_tablet_designerIf you’ve got a small business, you really should learn how to make a flyer, as it has proven to be very effective in spreading word about products, services or anything else that you want people to know about. There’s really nothing to it. Lots of computer programs can do it for you like Microsoft Word, Freehand MX, Adobe Illustrator, Corel DRAW and many more.

Creating Flyers is Easy

Often it’s simply a case of just opening the program and opening one of the flyer templates or clicking a Wizard to guide in the creation process step by step. Adding graphics is very easy and most support drag and drop too. If you are not the artistic type, don’t worry since these applications usually come with hundreds if not thousands of clipart. Needless to say there is also the Internet where you can get images and clipart.

White the creation process is a snap, you need to research your flyer carefully. The fact that it’s so simple to make has led to poorly made flyers, so don’t let that happen to you.

How to Get People to Notice Your Flyer

You have to use an attention grabbing headline or a cool image. If you’re going to use image or clipart, make sure that it is relevant to your image A note here about using clipart; while they are free, it is best to touch it up a bit so that people won’t notice that you just copied and pasted it into your flyer. That might not seem like a big deal, but it is since people will think you were too lazy designing your flyer.

Get the Message Across

Now you need to add some paragraphs or lines of text that will grab their attention. Don’t write something too long and be brief. Make sure that it is something that people will be interested in.

For example you can write down the product / service selling point, or tell them that the product or service is for only a limited time or some other special offer. If you’re offering something free, then make sure that you include it as people are always interested in something that is free.

Reach Out to Them

This is also very important, so be certain that you provide contact details like your phone number, address, business name, email and so on. Provide as much contact info as possible so potential customers have options. Also, don’t forget to include your business logo so that people will instantly recognize it.

Be Creative

This cannot be emphasized enough. Computers and software give you all

the tools you need to make a posh looking flyer, but it’s up to you to put them together. In other words, the computer cannot think for you.

Other Tips

Always place your business name at a conspicuous place in your flyer so that people will notice it and leave a lasting impression. You should also use large bold font for your headline like Arial Black or something readable. But make it a point to use only sans serifs fonts for your headlines as they are easier to read. Sans serifs are those fonts without curls at the tips of the letters.

Learning how to make a flyer is not that hard thanks to the power of computers. But you do need to think about the stuff you are going to put there, as it will make a huge difference.

Some great tips here. I think I’ve made just about every mistake with flyers it’s possible to make – including forgetting to add contact details. With my last batch I made the images too dark, so I would advise make a sample print before you print the whole batch to check that the images look ok printed

The flyer obviously needs to be designed well, so this article provides very useful guidelines. Apart from that, it’s also very important that you make sure the right target group receives the flyers. ‘General’ spots to hand out flyers (subway station exits for example) are usually less effective than ‘targeted’ spots – if you own a DVD store, you could flyer at theater exits. Those people are movie lovers, as well as in the movie watching mood, so they’ll be extra receptive for your message.
