Its that time of year- Apple unveils its new Apple Watch Series 5 with advanced features

Apple has been paving the way of future technology since the launch of its iPhone and iPad, which is why apple launches are always excitable. Especially this year as it included an ‘Easter Egg‘, a secret message for all die-hard Apple fans in its iPhone 11 event video.

Apple announced at its eagerly anticipated September launch that it would be expanding its range of smartwatches by launching the Apple watch series 5 alongside the iPhone 11. The new series 5 smartwatch by Apple is thought to be the most powerful and advanced device currently in the wearables market.

The launch will see two variations of the watch come to market. The first will be the Apple watch series 5 (GPS) starting at $399 and available to order in 41 countries and the second the Apple watch series 5 (GPS+cellular) starting at $499 available in 22 countries. Apple has confirmed that from Friday 20th September both models will be available for purchase. Here’s a look at some of the newer and advanced features the new smartwatch has in store for us.

Always-On Retina display

The new watch in comparison to its older siblings is debuting an Always-On Retina display that never sleeps. It is a new innovative feature which that will allow important information and the time to remain visible at all times. The face of each watch has been optimised for the new display and to simultaneously preserve battery life. With its carefully crafted intelligence, the screen dims when the user’s wrist is down and returns to full brightness when the watch is raised or tapped. To deliver this intelligence requires several advanced pieces of tech to work alongside one another. The genius combination of innovative hardware and intelligent software allows the Apple watch series 5 to offer a staggering all-day 18hour battery life.

Navigation

The new Apple watch features updated location features with more exceptional navigation tools to use throughout the day. The watch houses a built-in compass which works alongside Maps to help users accurately detect which way they are facing. Users will also be able to use the compass feature on the watch to see incline, altitude, heading, current elevation and longitude. The watch also lets users add one of three Compass complications to their watch face, enabling them to see direction at a glance. This makes the watch great for outdoor activities, especially as it will have the power to work alongside always-on retina display.

International emergency calling

The Apple Series 5 smartwatch has an added personal touch for safety when travelling. Users with the cellular version of the watch will now be able to make calls internationally to emergency services. This is not restricted to where the device was initially purchased or even if the cellular plan has been activated or not. The international emergency call feature can also work with fall detection, which is on the watch if the feature is activated.  The watch can place an emergency call automatically as it can sense that the user has taken a hard fall and if they remain motionless for about a minute. Features like this along with their recently launched heart monitoring functions, make smart technology like this life-saving pieces of equipment for the generation of tomorrow.

WatchOS 6

The apple watch series 5 will also come with additional health and fitness features with watchOS 6. These include features such as a new Cycle Tracking app which will help female users to log important information related to their monthly menstrual cycles. The feature will also help them predict the timing of their next period and including fertility data to help with family planning. The Noise app on the watch will also help users understand the sound levels in their environments which can negatively impact hearing. This is handy, especially when at live events such as concerts or sporting events.

Collaborations

In a first seen by Apple, the company has teamed up with popular sporting brand Nike and Luxury brand Hermes Paris to bring a variety of styles to their new product. The Apple Nike Watch features a watch face that is inspired by classic Nike attire along with a sporty and casual feel to the watch band and watch face. The Hermes Paris collaboration offers a more stylish and formal watch face with genuine Hermes bands. The collaborations can arguably help them win over more consumers and at large dominate the market.

As a British Indian traditionally we use both Rose and Pistachio when making Indian sweets such as Barfis. Growing up on Cadburys chocolates (my dad used to work for Cadburys) I have never really experienced a mainstream confectionary that mirrors the taste of Indian sweets which is where the inspiration for my bar has come from. The glitter reflects India’s bright colours and vibrancy.
