Apple has teamed up with the American Red Cross to offer a 4-month Apple Music trial to people who will donate blood, platelets or plasma during the month of August, as a way to alleviate a severe blood shortage.
The non-profit charity is currently experiencing a severe shortage of blood and in order to attract people to donate blood, they have partnered with Apple to incentivize users to visit their nearest blood bank.
Blood donors who donate blood from August 1 to 31 shall qualify for a free 4-month Apple Music as a gift that will be delivered via email. The trial is exclusive only for new Apple Music subscribers who have not yet tried the service. Those who have already subscribed, unfortunately, will not be able to benefit from this one.
Those interested can make an appointment to donate blood through the American Red Cross website.
The American Red Cross said about the current shortage, “As the coronavirus pandemic has grown here in the U.S., blood drive cancellations have grown at an alarming rate. To date, nearly, 2,700 Red Cross blood drives have been canceled across the country due to concerns about congregating at workplaces, college campuses and schools amidst the coronavirus outbreak. These cancellations have resulted in some 86,000 fewer blood donations. More than 80 percent of the blood the Red Cross collects comes from drives held at these locations.”
American Red Cross president and chief executive officer Gail McGovern said, “As a nation, this is a time where we must take care of one another including those most vulnerable among us in hospitals. One of the most important things people can do right now during this public health emergency is to give blood. If you are healthy and feeling well, please make an appointment to donate as soon as possible.”
For those who donate before August 15, they will also qualify for a chance to win a VIP trip to the sold-out 2021 Bonnaroo music festival in Tennessee.
