Donald Trump’s ‘Truth Social’ launches on Apple App Store

After being banned from major social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and YouTube following the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, former United States President Donald Trump has now finally been able to make a comeback, via “Truth Social” app.

The much-awaited Truth Social app became available for download on the iOS App Store a day before Presidents’ Day on February 21 (Monday).

The app has been promoted as a platform that lets users post their “truth” as they would tweet, without getting discriminated against for their political beliefs.

“Due to massive demand”, some users had trouble registering for an account or were even placed on a waiting list.

Despite this, the new app hit No. 1 in the App Store’s top charts early Monday.

The company that owns Truth Social is Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), and is led by former Republic US congressman Devin Nunes, who stated that he hopes the app will be fully operational in the US by the end of March.

Stylized as TRUTH Social, the new platform joins the ranks of a growing lineup of new tech and social media companies that promise their users freedom of speech, and it also aims to attract those individuals who feel that their voices are suppressed and unwelcome on more established platforms.

Looking similar to Twitter, Truth Social is also another example of an alternative social media app such as Gettr, Parler and video site Rumble that conservatives have turned to because of censorship concerns.

The description on the website reads,

Follow the Truth.

Truth Social is America’s “Big Tent” social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.

At the moment, Truth Social is available for U.S. users only, but rest assured, we are working hard to make it available in your country.
