Macs are superior to PCs when compared in terms of performance, processing power, and stability. Modern Macs, including Intel Core2Duo and greater, are known for their high performance and processing speed. However, these things may vary depending on the usage of Mac. If you usually open more than a dozen applications simultaneously and fill your hard drive with a lot of graphics and video files, you are certainly going to see a decline in your performance.
The reason for this decline is inadequate memory and hard drive space available to run these applications and other processes. In order to squeeze the best performance from your Mac, you should follow the below mentioned tips to Speed up Mac performance.
Hard Drive
The cause of poor performance of your Mac is often a full or failing hard drive. You should verify the storage space used on your drive through the Finder application. If the drive is almost full, you should uninstall applications that are used infrequently and purge files that are no longer needed. Further, if your drive is on the verge of an imminent failure, you should backup data on another media and replace the drive.
Activity Monitor
The Activity Monitor is an easy way to find out which processes are taking huge amount of system resources. You may want to force quit some of these processes in order to restore your Mac to the original performance. You can find the Activity Monitor application in the ‘Utilities’ folder.
Browser Extensions
Browsers tend to slow down things on your Mac. This can be attributed to their large caches and several opened unused tabs. Moreover, if you have installed third-party extensions for your browser, you are certainly to experience undesirable performance and major system slowdowns. To accelerate your performance, you should clear these caches and disable all the unnecessary browser extensions.
Disk Permissions
A routine practice of repairing permissions on Apple-originated objects can resolve a number of issues on Mac. You can repair permissions on system files and folders using the Apple’s Disk Utility.
If the aforementioned methods fail to revive your sluggish Mac, you should take help of professional Speed up Mac utilities. These advanced tools enable you to reclaim hard disk space by removing unwanted files, caches, and logs from your system. With the help of these tools, you can uninstall all unwanted applications by a simple ‘Drag and Drop’ operation.
