Top 10 Gadgets I Want For Christmas – And Maybe You Would Too?

christmas_treeChristmas is closing in on us, but according to the stores and malls it kinda looks like it’s Christmas already. It’s amazing how they manage to make everything look Christmassy sooner and sooner almost every year.

Anywho, what’s a Tech blog without a top 10 list of all the greatest gadgets that most of us would love to see under the Christmas tree? Except for just a tiny problem of course: Price! The price tag on many of these gadgets might be a quite a hurdle for most of us. But then again, it’s Christmas and you’ll never know what Santa might bring…

Let’s get on with the list. Cheapest items first…

Magic Mouse from Apple

apple_magic_mouseWhat’s a gadget wish list without a product from Apple? Obviously the new 27″ iMac could easily be the Apple product for this wish list, but I don’t need it. I’m happy with my MacBook Pro and I don’t need another computer to maintain – after all, I can only just use one computer at a time. So I’m gonna have to go with the new Magic Mouse on this one. It’s wireless, it’s multi-touch, it has no visible buttons and it’s $69. Actually, I might cheat on this one and get it before Christmas. We’ll see.

PSP GO

psp_goAt less than $250, the PSP GO could easily be worth its price, considering how many hours of gameplay you could squeeze out of this thing. I had the first PSP when it came on the market and it was just like the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii – fun at first, then it started to get boring. For me, at least. I would like to try out PSP GO because of it’s beautiful 3.8″ screen and downloadable games – no longer necessary to run around with all your games in a backpack.

iRobot 500 Roomba Vacuum Cleaning Robot

irobota_roomba_500_vacuum_cleaning_robotI have one of the older Roombas from 2004-2005 or something like that. It’s not so good any more so I rarely use it. But I love the idea of having “somebody” clean the floors for you – even if you’re not home. I could probably wish for a really fancy Roomba but I think just an regular 500 series Roomba would be enough for me, they come in at just $260, not too bad for (almost) never having to clean your floors, right?

Garmin Forerunner 310XT

garmin_forerunner_310xtRunning is not for me, but dieting is, so taking walks and a 3-minute run every now and then is what I strive to do. Having a gadget with me, just makes it a little bit easier and more interesting. This cool-looking Garmin Forerunner 310XT watch also has a built-in GPS and syncs with your computer. At around $400, it’s…. well, let’s be honest, I have no idea if it’s worth that price or not. But I’d still like one.

Nokia N900

nokia_n900I’m not crazy about Nokia, especially not their operating systems (S40 and Symbian S60), but Nokia N900 is based on Linux Maemo and it looks so cool that I would really, really like to try it out. Just for a day or two till I start missing the App Store and “slide to unlock”… N900 has a 3.5” touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from underneath. Cool.

It’s available for pre-order at less than $600, will it be out in time for Christmas?

DeLonghi Magnifica Espresso Machine

delonghi_magnifica_espresso_makerEnjoying a cappuccino, or espresso, every now and then is great. Being able to make them yourself, is great too. Unfortunately, my espresso maker is crap. I have no idea how great this DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica really is, but the price of $745 suggests that it has a thing or two up its sleeves. I could probably settle with a less expensive one, but I’ve heard good things about the brand “DeLonghi”…

Sony HDR-XR500V Camcorder

sony_hdr-xr500vThe XR500V is the successor to my current HD cam, Sony HDR-SR11E. One of the features I’m really digging about the XR500V is the built-in GPS receiver to tag where your videos are shot. I don’t think that it’s supported by iMovie on Mac yet, but I still like the idea of geotagging not only pictures, but also video. HDR-XR500V comes with a built-in 120GB hard drive for storing your recordings and a 3.2″ touchscreen display. Price: $1,249.

Sennheiser HD800

sennheiser_hd800Listening to music is great, having some quality headphones is a must. I’m really happy about my “Beats by Dr Dre” headphones (I don’t listen to Dr Dre’s music, but the headphones are great), but if the Beats went head to head with HD800, I wouldn’t wanna be the audio cable connected to the Beats cause they’re gonna get beaten (no pun intended). Sennheiser HD800 comes with a price tag of, hold on, $1.400. Crispy!

Canon EOS 7D

canon_eos_7dIt’s new, it’s expensive, it’s gorgeous. Shooting 8 pictures a second plus video in HD, does it get any better? Yes it does, EOS 7D has 18 million pixels and it’s somewhat weather proof too.

Price? Oh, only $1,899. And that’s just for the body. Maybe next year…

Philips Cinema 56″ (21:9)

philips_cinema_219_56Must I really explain why I want this TV? Okay, then. First of all, it’s the world’s first cinema-proportioned TV( 21:9). Second, it’s huge (56″). And third, there is no third. It’s 21:9 and 56″, that’s all it takes. Price, I’m not sure, but I’ve heard it to be around $6,000. Maybe next year, must be cheaper by then…

What’s Your Most Wanted Gadgets?

Those were my top 10 most-wanted gadgets for this Christmas. Now it’s your turn. Feel free to comment, do a blog post and link to it or whatever you like – let us know what you’re interested in, it doesn’t even have to be tech gadgets.

  2. iRobot thing is cool, long as the cops dont knock down your door because someone heard ‘a weird noise’ in there. (no really, it happened!)

That being said, my list would include an Iphone (or a hero?), and some kind of universal remote. Up to 6 remotes again, gotta do something about that.
Anyone have a recommendation for a remote?

That being said, I havent reached the whole what I want for christmas trip yet – first up is getting the garden lit up with some jolly old lights

    /first comment 😀

    • Hehe, I can understand why somebody would call the cops – it does make a weird noise if you’re not used to it.

Universal Remotes FTW! I better include one of those on an updated list later on.

  3. I think I’ll go with the magic mouse 🙂
Even though the tv looks amazing, the price is way out of range…as you say, maybe next year.

  4. I am looking forward for the Christmas, but yet to think about the things to buy. Too early I suppose for making a list. Anyway the list was good, but all included too costly items 🙂

  7. Man, I’ve been looking for an SLR for ages and that Canon EOS 7D looks like it would do the job. Not this Christmas though. Perhaps next year.

    • I wouldn’t mind having an SLR either, but I’m not good enough to take pictures to warrant such an expensive purchase. I think I prefer HD camcorders still, video is a bit more interesting to show off and look at from to time.

    • Same here. To be precise two years now, and everytime I see a good catch or a sale I latch on to it, but than the SLR tends to vanish quick as the sale! lol 🙂

I’ve also been looking into the Canon, but not this one as it is too expensive for my wallet.

  8. I’ve already got me a Sony camcorder, and while its good and all, it’s not an SLR, something that would come in really handy for my Photo Blogs.

  9. I haven’t got an LCD TV yet, so the Philips Cinema 56″ (21:9) sounds like a good idea 😀

Although… I’ve got so many gadgets recently that I don’t know what else I’m missing (which is a lie, because you’ll never have enough gadgets :P)

  14. Dear Klaus,
It’s already Christmas here too. In the UK they are fanatical about it, and start at least a couple of months before and getting everything prepared in the Superstores. Central London is the most Christmasy of the lot, but still beautiful nonetheless. I am not an avid enthusiast of Christmas, but I do appreciate it nonetheless.
Out of all those gifts, I have to say I’m mostly connected with the Canon EOS 7D, even if the price is that high. I have a slight weakness for cameras, even if I don’t yet own one myself.
Happy Seasons whatever you do, and again I hope you are well.
    Kind Regards

  27. From the above items I would have to say that my top choices would be the Magic Mouse from Apple and the Sony HDR-XR500V Camcorder. When I first got my mac book pro, I wanted the magic mouse so bad but it was just too much money. Also, I wanted an HD camcorder to make youtube videos. It would be great to get them from Christmas!
One thing that I would like to get is a bundle of the Rosetta Stone software so that I can learn my language and communicate with family.
