Pickaweb – Cheap Domain Names [Sponsored Post]

This post is a sponsored post, paid for by ReviewMe. All the views expressed in this post are mine and are not affected by the fact that I have been paid to do this review.

pikaweb_domain_name_screenshotPickaweb was formed in 2000 and is considered to be one of the pioneers of UK web hosting, concentrating on the Small to Medium sized Enterprise market (SME), where it has established itself has a key player.

Pickaweb offers the usual suspects (plus telephony services) when it comes to web hosting and domain name registration, such as:

  • High quality web hosting services with 24×7 technical support via chat, phone and e-mail. Of course their packages comes with control panel software as well, they use the widely popular Cpanel package.
  • Instant domain name registrations.
  • Telephony services where you can manage your telephone number online, redirect calls and a bunch of other things.

Pickaweb comes with very reasonable prices for web-hosting. You don’t want to pick the cheapest player in town when you’re looking for a place to put your shiny new website. You want a hosting provider that does exactly that – provide hosting and doesn’t fight the endless battle to be the cheapest web hosting provider. Besides that, as already mentioned, Pickaweb offers 24×7 technical support so you can always get a hold of them.

Registering a domain name with Pickaweb couldn’t be easier – and to my great enjoyment, you’re not overloaded with a ton of “buy this and get that for free” and “oh, and if you buy this, you’ll be able to do sooo much more”-stuff all over the place like certain other domain registrars sometimes do. Pickaweb’s prices are in the low end too, £8.99 a year for a .com domain is just $14.25. And if you’re British you might want to get a .co.uk domain for just £4.99 a year.

Just one thing that caused me a bit of a trouble with Pickaweb, when I wanted to remove a domain from my shopping cart. I couldn’t quite figure out how to do that so I had to take advantage of their 24×7 live chat support, giving me a chance to find out how they would respond to such a simple question.

As it turns out, the live chat was really fast and helpful but wasn’t able to provide an exact solution to my problem, except suggesting that I restarted the browser and tried again. Did sound like, though, that if I’ve had registered an account at Pickaweb first, I would have been able to modify my shopping cart.

Once again, while this review has been paid for, all the views stated above are my own personal views on Pickaweb, their prices, services and what research I was able to do on the company, based on a Google search.

  1. Sounds like a good hosting organisation, in the UK. That’s a very good review. I have been with Fuzioned.com for nearly two years now, and the live one2one support is excellent. Fuzioned has been transferred into http://ariotek.co.uk/ an amalgamation of Macoman, Macdomains and Fuzioned creating the new company of Ariotek.

  2. Nice review 🙂 I ditto your views about pricing. There is nothing better than quality & service provided by a web hosting company.

    • I know GoDaddy is big and all that, but I wouldn’t use them even if they were half price. Their site is even worse than all the worst online casinos I’ve ever seen – combined 🙂 You can’t order a single domain without being offered hundreds of add-ons etc etc. No thank you 🙂

    • It’s not idiotic. It’s currency exchange rate. That’s what pisses me off about the UK. If a product costs $4.99 in the US, in the UK it will cost £4.99. All that changed was the currency sign.
IMO, the £8.99 only favors those living in the UK cos it kinda fits how they earn over there.;)
