What does a 13 year old do with an 80’s Walkman?

Quite an interesting experiment, and funny too. BBC gave a 13 year old kid a Sony Walkman, as it appeared when it was first released almost 30 years ago.

The Walkman was a complete stranger to the kid, which resulted in some funny observations.

“When I wore it walking down the street or going into shops, I got strange looks, a mixture of surprise and curiosity, that made me a little embarrassed.”

“It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.”

“I managed to create an impromptu shuffle feature simply by holding down “rewind” and releasing it randomly – effective, if a little laboured.”

  2. Well, it is really funny experience. People these days would surely stare someone who is using a 30’s built in walkman. hahaha..I wonder how it looks for real…But at the other side, it is still fine because main purpose is to listen to music.
