As part of a Become A Blogger deal about a year ago I also got a free $500 website review on johnchow.com, which I decided to take him up on a few days ago – and it’s already posted, written by Michael Kwan.
Why wait a whole year? Well, I wanted to “get ready” before I let John Chow chew up my site and I felt right now was a good time to redeem my free review, also to avoid having it potentially expire.
If you haven’t already, you might want to head on over and read the John Chow review before you continue reading the rest of this post.
“As an enthusiast blog, itβs definitely better than most.” – John Chow dot Com
John Chow notices I only has a first name and no last name, like Prince or Madonna. Well, I do have a last name π But for branding purposes I always comment on other blogs as “Klaus @ TechPatio” so I decided to just stick with my first name. The same goes for the other TechPatio writer, Emily, who is simply known as “Emily @ TechPatio”.
I’m very happy to see John Chow complimenting me on my English skills since English is not my first language. He’s not the first one to do so and while I’m mostly satisfied with the quality of my written English, I’m always trying to improve and see if I can do better – that’s why you are more than welcome to correct me whenever you spot a mistake π
As for TechPatio content, John Chow is correct when he writes TechPatio doesn’t really separate from the masses of technology websites but that I do put in a little bit of my personality. Over the last few months I’ve posted less “general news articles” than usual as I’d like to move toward more unique and personal content rather than just telling the same stories as everybody else. But sometimes there are stories that I’d just like to share and maybe even add my own opinion about it. I don’t think TechPatio will ever be completely free of tech news stories.
Cluttered layout? That’s what John Chow writer Michael Kwan feels. I might have to agree with him on that one, too. I’m more into the developing-part of websites and not the design so I’m sometimes struggling to figure out what the best layout may be. I’ll have to look into that and try to optimize it more.
John Chow, thanks for posting my review – and welcome to all the new readers who came here because of that review π
A JohnChow.Com review is simply one of the best review ever. Considering the traffic and authority link it can give to your site. Not to mention the honest opinion and some sort of tip of advice you can get from expert bloggers and writers around the johnchow community. Great up Klaus!
Thanks for your comment Ron π Yes it’s nice to have received such a good review and of course the links are valuable as well. Unfortunately the traffic is not so good, only 36 visits came from johnchow.com over the weekend.
I agree with Ron – and you did well waiting with that one. Many people would have jumped on that too soon. Good job there!
Congrats on that good review! It was definitely good you waited ’til this blog is going so well and you’ve had time to get things looking and functioning the way you like. That comment about “cluttered” sort of mystified me though. I mean, go to John Chow’s site and look at it, then look at this one – how is yours cluttered? π
Thanks Christie. And yeah, you do have a point. But I guess it’s because of our niches. John Chow is supposed to have a site that looks like that one does but tech blogs must remain more non-cluttered, or whatever the right word might be π
You really got a great opportunity. Your blog just got reviewed on one of the popular blogs in the world. I think you must share the change in traffic on your blog after that review. It will be great for us to get an idea about the potential of traffic from JohnChow blog.
Unfortunately not that much traffic, I guess the John Chow audience doesn’t fancy my niche too much π Google Analytics only recorded 36 visits from johnchow.com over the weekend (but they did 3 pageviews each, which is not bad).
Really? Hmm..I think you should get more than that. Anyway, you got your name exposed to a large audiences so at least, it’s a good thing.
Congrats, you are doing a great job
its really good to be review from john chow…
Well done. Especially with having the patience to wait until you felt comfortable with putting your site up for the review. I would have been chomping at the bit if I knew I had that option.
