Betfair – First iPhone ‘Gambling’ App in App Store

Betfair recently announced that their app had been accepted by Apple into App Store. Before you start to cheer, you should know that the app is only available in the UK and you can’t just create a UK iTunes Store account and download it, because Betfair uses the built-in iPhone GPS to determine that you’re actually within the country.

While Betfair does offer poker and casino play, their iPhone application currently only has sportsbetting to offer.

Ladbrokes, bwin and Party Poker are also said to be interested in launching an iPhone/iPad app but Apple turned them down back then, with reference to the american ban against online gambling.

I think it would be cool to have an online poker app on the iPad, maybe even the iPhone, though the screen is probably too small. But being able to play Texas Hold’em while on a public transport and not having to sit with a laptop would be really cool πŸ™‚

  3. Hi there,
thanks for the entry about the betfair sportsbetting iPhone app. As for me it is really not clear why Ladbrokes, bwin and Party Poker have failed to reach an agreement with the Apple store. These online gambling houses are basically the gambling giants, especially Ladbrokes which is the biggest in the UK. Besides, Ladbrokes, bwin are already offering mobile casino games real money wagering.
    Regards. Tanya
