iPhone Users “Downloaded” Flash 7 Million Times in December

By now it’s no surprise to anybody that the iPhone doesn’t support flash and that the new iPad is not going to do so either. Steve Jobs even demonstrated it (by accident?) at the iPad presentation keynote when he browsed to a newspaper website (I can’t remember if it was WSJ or NYT) and flash wasn’t used to display an ad, instead there was just a blue box with the “?”-sign in it.

Despite Flash not being available for iPhone, 7 million iPhone users went to Adobe’s website in an attempt to download Flash during December 2009. Compared to June 2009 where 3 million users attempted the same thing.

There’s still no indication that Apple will allow Flash on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.

Needless to say, Adobe isn’t happy with Apple.

  2. I think this is a foolish move on Apples behalf. If I was an iPhone user I would be quite upset because flash has become a staple on a lot of popular websites.

    • I don’t know mate. I can’t remember the last time I actually needed flash when browsing on the iPhone. As seen from Apple’s point of view, I understand why they don’t want it on the iPhone, mostly because of their huge success with the App Store which will not be as needed if many things could just run as flash. Also there might be issues with performance and battery usage, since flash isn’t exactly “lightweight”.

But from a user standpoint, it would be great to have the option.
