August 2010: Blog Summary & Income Report

A new month has arrived and that means it’s time to look back and see how August went for TechPatio.com in terms of traffic and money. I was on a two week vacation in August so I didn’t really have much time to write content and do the usual marketing, but thanks to a bunch of guest authors I was at least able to keep new content coming in at a steady rate while being away.

Let’s take a look at the numbers below…

Conclusion: August ’10

It’s amazing to see Google AdSense finally picking up just a little bit, almost $50 in August. The secret? Optimization and traffic, traffic and traffic! I’ve spent some time working with channels, placements, ad types etc., and so far I can tell that having a 336×280 text ad in the upper left corner of my posts (below the headline) has made as much money as a 160×600 image skyscraper in the right sidebar, with only half as many impressions.

It’s also nice to see a Thesis sale. I don’t advertise much for Thesis because my audience is not really “bloggers looking to buy a new theme”, so it’s nice to see that when another blogger finally decides to purchase Thesis and benefit from the fantastic built-in SEO of Thesis or upgrade Thesis from a personal license to a developer in order to use it on multiple sites, that they use my Thesis link to do so. Thanks, you! 🙂

I’ve also just signed up for BuySellAds.com because I want to try and sell some ad spots. There’s a 468×60 ad spot available in the header, upper right corner. And also a 160x600px skyscraper ad spot in the right column. They are $10/month each, so it’s really a bargain – click here for more information and to buy or contact me for any questions.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. Traffic was good in August too. A new record!! I don’t know if the same will happen in September but I’m confident of at least 30,000 pageviews.

  1. Fantastic traffic stats you’ve pulled in August!

Thanks also for sharing your revenue; really helps to see regular bloggers making money with what they do instead of the usual “I made $1mil this month!” from people that have ad budgets out the rear.

Keep up the great work! 🙂

    • Greg, I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll be able to break through $100/month soon, you’re already very close to it. So just keep up the great work and always try to optimize and get better – and I’m also looking forward to seeing some more videos from your new videocam!

By the way, I’ll send you an e-mail, cause I have a little question for you.

  4. Awesome stats bro. $351 is not at all a bad earning for a blog with alexa rank 110K. Hope you will earn more in the following month. All the best

  7. Not to bad, August was a great month for you concerning revenue and traffic. I made around the same amount from various streams, but I know I could of done so much better if I tried harder.

All you have to do is keep going and your stats and revenue will increase.

    • Thanks George. It’s going to be hard for me to increase the 40,000 pageviews I think, but I’m hoping that my guest post on your blog later this month, will throw some traffic my way 😉

  9. I have just taken your advice and put the Google ads top left within the posts. I can see that this makes them more ‘involved’ – so here is me hoping for a dramatic increase in clicks.

    • Hi David, nice to see you over here 🙂 While there’s no guarantee when it comes to ad types and placements, a big ad spot just below the header is a placement that I see very often on many blogs and I’ve heard in several places that it works really well – so I decided to try it out and by using AdSense channels, I can see that it does indeed work very well for me too.

I hope you’ll see similar, or even better, results 🙂

Use a REAL NAME – not keywords!
