Nikon 70-200mm lens thermos bottle [review]

Last year I reviewed the Nikon 24-70mm lens thermo cup, which I think was pretty cool (and I still use it sometimes when I’m out and about). This time I got something even better to review; Β a Nikon 70-200mm thermos lens bottle from LensMug.net, a 1:1 model of the real Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens.

Specifications:

  • Vacuum sealed, double-layered stainless steel interior.
  • Leak-proof, rust-proof finish.
  • Easy-pour stopper to keep liquid from spilling over.
  • Rubber-grip focus.
  • Zoom rings (it doesn’t do any actual zoom, though).
  • Tripod collar to use as a handle.
  • Holds 485 ml of liquid.

It is not dishwasher safe, so this means there’s no risk of you (or your wife/girlfriend) putting your real Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens in the dishwasher by accident πŸ™‚

So, how does it feel? Very good, actually, it’s quite sturdy and the plastic feels like decent quality. The rubber rings makes the bottle real easy and secure to handle so it doesn’t slip in your hands. Also the tripod collar makes for a good handle when carrying the bottle around.

When you unscrew the top, you get a cup like with many other thermos bottles, this one Β has the tripod collar attached so you can use it as a handle.

The lens bottle has amazing details and I guarantee you won’t be able to tell the difference between this, and a real lens, unless you’re close, touching it or lifting it. Here it is next to a real Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens (with a rubber hood from eBay on it):

This Nikon lens bottle is usually $49.95 but it’s currently selling at $44.95 with worldwide free shipping. Get yours today from LensMug.net, where you can also find thermos bottles and cups for other lenses, including Canon.

This was one of the shorter reviews I’ve written, but there’s really not much to write about a thermos bottle πŸ™‚ Β Basically it does what it says on the box and it looks great.Β The perfect gift for the photog who already has everything!

No, it's not leaking... it's dripping because it's open πŸ™‚

  1. Good Review. That thing looks a lot like the real camera lens! I think this could be ideal for a gift or maybe even a good joke.

    • I’m sure it would be ideal for both, but as a gift it would probably make somebody more happy for a longer time, than if you’re just pulling a joke on that somebody πŸ™‚

  2. This is actually pretty neat. I would be a little nervous about having a thermos bottle that looks so similar to the real thing, but then there really isn’t any risk because I don’t think a thermos bottle would be nearly as heavy as the real thing, would it?

    It’s pretty great. πŸ™‚

    • No no, it’s not at all as heavy as the real thing – unless of course you have liquid in it, then it might come close. But if you own the real thing, then you’ll know which one is real and which is fake πŸ™‚

  3. That is very cool. It took me a while to figure out that you were not reviewing an actual camera. I would like to buy it, but 50 bucks for a thermous is a bit too much for me. Maybe once my adsense arnings start picking up πŸ™‚

    • Yes, $50 for a thermos bottle is indeed not the cheapest around. But, this is not just any bottle – as you can see, plus it’s actually $45 including worldwide free shipping. I’ve seen places where it can costs as much as $20 just to have a printed photo shipped from the US to Europe, so worldwide free shipping does have a value as well.

  5. LOL! At first I was trying to work out how it could be a lens and a thermos as well and then it finally dawned on me. πŸ˜€ Good one Karl, now I feel like a real loser πŸ˜‰

Now that I see it for what it really is I can see it has it’s uses. Imagine people’s stares when you pull it out of you camera bag and take a drink from it.

    • Yeah I’m not sure sure why you keep calling me Karl, both here and on your own blog, but thanks, I guess πŸ˜€

    • Just get a thermos bottle and you can enjoy hot coffee anywhere – no need for a camera, just coffee πŸ™‚

  7. Although the price is a bit steep for a thermos bottle, it will without doubt be a great gift for a shutterbug loved one. I mean, I really want one. I think I’ll show this to my wife πŸ™‚

  8. I might have to buy one to use as a decoy when I’m working someplace where someone might want to steal my gear … well I guess that could be pretty much anyplace, eh?
