Ask.com Revolutionizes Q&A with the ‘PollRoll’ App

Ask.com recently launched its flagship app called “PollRoll,” a mobile Q&A app that mixes polls and social networking.  The Q&A-focused search engine introduced this mobile app during the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas.

Creators of the PollRoll took inspiration from its Q&A community. According to Ask.com, since its users were already leveraging its services as a polling mechanism, they might as well provide their users with an easier way to set up a quick poll, survey others on any possible topic, and share the results.

The Top 5 Features You Need to Know About the “PollRoll”

PollRoll is available for iPhone and iPod Touch users operating on iOS 4.0 or higher. Since this is a fairly new app, here are the top five features you need to know about the PollRoll:

1. Choose from more than a thousand polls.

With over a thousand polls available, users can choose to answer built-in polls or those posted by their friends. They can also engage with all the users of PollRoll or limit themselves with the people they personally know.

PollRoll users can view polls posted under three categories: New (polls that are only posted recently), Trending (polls that are getting the most number of answers), and Nearby (polls that are posted by users within your area).

2. Create eye-catching polls.

Instead of creating bland polls, users can accompany their questions with eye-catching photos or by selecting one from the in-app images.

3. Engage more with friends.

Adding the social networking aspect, Ask.com made it easier for PollRoll users to get answers from their contacts in other social sites. By linking to their Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, users can now post their polls and receive more responses even from non-PollRoll users.

4. Get context from various comments.

When someone posts a question, a regular poll simply provides a variety of choices for those who want to answer it. However, the inquirer will generally not get further explanations after the users picked their answers.

With PollRoll, users can now opt to provide more contexts to their answers. Furthermore, the inquirer will now be able to view the comments section and understand why users picked a particular answer.

5. Filter results.

As a PollRoll user, you have the option to view and compare poll responses from three categories: All (responses from every PollRoll user), Around Me (responses within your area), or Friends (responses from your personal contact list).

The SXSW conference has been a popular event for debuting location-based apps. In fact, Foursquare was introduced to the world during the 2009 SXSW conference.

According to Ask.com CEO Doug Leeds, “SXSW is the perfect testing ground for us to play with mobile polling functionality, including filters like social connections and location, ultimately shaping how these features are integrated across both our flagship mobile app and site.”

The promotional video for PollRoll demonstrates its capabilities to create and share poll questions and results. Any user can post a poll about anything under the sun. For instance, a user can ask which food his/her friends would recommend to order from a particular restaurant. Moreover, users can also compare answers to his/her poll based on responses from all users or only from his/her friends.
